Price: US $5,000.00
I am selling this 1966 AMC Ambassador station wagon that I have owned for ten years now. It is time to simplify life and thin the herd. This is a low-mileage, well-preserved car. All required maintenance has been performed as needed. She has the 327 V8, 2-barrel carburetor engine with the Borg-Warner automatic transmission. She has a clear, Box A, Arizona title in my name. Options on the car are:Power steering Power brakesElectric wipersCruise control (it works, but gets a little jerky sometimes on hills)Tilt wheelLight packageOptional side-hinged tailgate AM/FM radio327 V8 with 2-barrel carburetorFactory A/C that works. A/C uses R12 refrigerant.Emergency flashersLocking gas capTissue dispenserWire wheel coversWindshield washer
The green portion of the car has been repainted to match the factory Crescent Green, and the rust in areas typical for these cars was properly repaired at that time. The white portion of the roof (Frost White) is factory paint. I bought the carpet kit from Mac McCoy and installed it myself. The seats were professionally redone to original with fabric and vinyl from SMS fabrics. I have the original rear floor and back end carpet that will come with the car. Everything but the clock and windshield washer works. The transmission has been repaired but I don't know that it has ever been completely rebuilt. The engine has not been rebuilt to my knowledge, and just turned over 70, 000 miles. She had 56, 900 miles when I bought her. The timing chain has been replaced.
This car has been nationally published. It was featured in the August 2013 issue of Hemmings Classic Cars on page 22, Rambler Passion. It was also in the 2014 AMCRC calendar as the July featured car. This car won Best of Show in 2008 in Henderson, NV at the Las Vegas AMC Reunion, AMCRC Southwest Regional show.
I have driven it to Tacoma, Washington; San Luis Obispo, California; Las Vegas, Nevada; and Denver, Colorado for shows. I had fuel delivery problems in Denver, and had repairs made to the car at the Forney Museum. Gas tank was refurbished last year with new fuel sending unit and fuel pump placed.
I know the question will arise, Can I fly in and drive it home? The car could probably be driven to your home anywhere in the country, but I recommend shipping. I have driven this car and my 1965 Marlin on multiple interstate road trips. Every year, when I drive my cars on interstate trips, I have fuel delivery problems that get a little worse with each passing year. I suspect are related to the increasing levels of ethanol in the gasoline. Yes, I am talking about vapor lock. My worst problems have been with California and Colorado gas. After last year's trip to Denver, I no longer plan to drive interstate in these cars because it is no longer fun.
This car is sold as-is, where-is. Buyer is responsible for payment as agreed upon in the auction, and for arranging shipping. Deposit is non-refundable. I welcome you sending someone to inspect the car. I have consulted various price guides for these cars with high retail value ranging anywhere from $22, 000 down to under $10, 000 for high retail. This car is not a #1 vehicle, and I do not represent it as such. NADA's high retail value of $22, 050 specifically states that that value does not represent a #1 car. This auction has a reserve, and I will not disclose it prior to the end of the auction. The Buy it now is less than the NADA value, and the reserve will be somewhere below that
