Description:

1970 American Motors Rebel The Machine one year only 1970. This is a real Rebel MACHINE. Please note this car is a Bayshore Blue car repainted in the 1990's into a Red White and Blue Car. It was painted by a musclecar dealership to provide more curb appeal. Car can be left as is or can be restored into an even rarer Machine. Approx 1, 200 Red White and Blue Cars but only about 600 or so in what is referred to as the solid color cars. This car is Bayshore Blue coded car -Paint 82-A and interior trim code --053F with rare blue interior and much rarer especially with the 4 speed and factory air conditions. AOM190Y XXXXX A-AMC, O-1970, M-4-Speed Manual, 1-Rebel 2 door, 9-2 door hardtop, 0-Basic Rebel, Y-(1970) 390-V8 4V , 340 HP. Milage is 66, 473 and could be original based on the condition, and title info. However, it is over 40 years old so I cannot confirm. It was mentioned in a previous Machine auction (with a reserve of $62, 000) that there were only three (3), four (4) speed Machines with air conditioning built. I will not make any statements about this because I do not have the data avaliable; however, I have never seen another one so it is truly rare. You can check with Eddie Stakes at Planet Houston for info. He is considered the authority on AMCs. The car is equipped with a 390 cubic Inch motor with the special heads, intake and exhaust manifolds unique to the Machine cars. The car has an AMC motor and I have not verified any date codes or part numbers or internal parts. I will be happy to provide the buyer with any info or part numbers if requested. Car has factory air conditioning. (not connected ) Some parts will come with the car such as the compressor hoses and condenser. I had no use for AC so I never pursued it. The car has a smooth operating Edelbrock carburetor on it currently. I have an original type Motorcraft 4-barrel with the car. The dashboard has the AC control panel and the evaporator and duct work is in place. The motor has the Group 19 Edelbrock valve covers. It ihas the special air cleaner and seal. It has the original radiator power steering and fan etc, and washer bag and original AMC appearing components. It is equipped with a Borg warner T-10 4 -speed with Hurst linkage. 390:1 rear gear ratio. Runs nice. Has original vacuum wipers but not hooked up. I have an electric motor that was going to replace it. In general, I replaced and rebuilt the underhood components and kept the parts as original as possible such as the original motorola system and improved some of the pieces to make is drivable. Please note: I am by no means not stating that everything is number matching or date coded as with a concourse restoration. This car is a good reliable fun driver that has the potential to be a concourse restoration car. See Pictures. Paint and body was redone and restored in the 1990's and sold by Hooked on Classics Musclecar dealership located in Waterton Minnesota. I spoke to the dealership and they provided some background information. They said they purchased it from a person in Iowa and then it was previously aquired from a person in Texas. I have no documentaion but can provide contact info if requested by buyer. The Texas location likley explains the AC option. Paint is old and and in average driver quality condition with some chips checking and some body work visible around the rear quarter area and door corners. However, it shows nice and is clean. The trunk, undercarriage, floors, fenders, firewall, appear to be in good condition with no obvious rust. Bumpers appear as original condition as well as trim which is in good condition and complete. Glass is clear with no cracks. Stainless steel trim is nice and straight. I basically maintained the paint and kepthe car clean and drove it and showed it locally. Great fun car to drive with nice power. See pictures. Car is equipped with original (rare) 15 Machine wheels are nice as well as the rare center caps. Spacesaver spare and inflator bottle is in good condition. I replaced the exhaust system in 2006 with a full aluminum system. Tires are replaced and are approximalty three years old. Car has scratches however, no major collision or panel replacement as far as I am aware of. See pictures. Origianal interior (door panels, headliner, and seats) were redone in a custom fabric when I purchased it. It contains buckets seats. I since removed and replaced the door panels with original (rare) door panels and package tray. Seats were in good condition but will need to be replace to be original (Legendary now has the exact seat cover replacements avaliable). Seat foam is dry and crumbling and buyer would have to replace them when doing the seat covers. Dashboard is in good condition, dash top has been replaced with a recondition cover during its previous restoration. Has very cool original super rare push button vertical radio. I have the original steering wheel and upgraded it to the three spoke design as pictured. I have been critical ofthe car to be honest and forthcoming. It is an original car that was repainted/restored in the 1990s as mentioned and is a fun driver that can be made into a concourse car or appreciated and enjoyed as is with some TLC. I am selling because I will be buying a new vehical and already have a vintage muscle car and vintage toys and need the garage space. I would like to see a true enthusiast enjoy the car and care for it. Please look at the photos and ask questions. Car is avaliable locally and I reserve the right to sell it any time. Serious enthusiats and buyers only. I reserve the right to cancel bids from suspect bidders and non paying bidders. Buyer responsible for shippment and transportation. On Aug-03-15 at 20:27:53 PDT, seller added the following information:A bidder asked about the Stripes. The car was paying it back in the ninety's in the striped kiss weren't available so they painted the stripes on to the car. Also a bidder asked about the serial number behind the steering box and I never had the steering box off to check. I used the dash vin and door vin for verification.
