VIN V8COL15210
Beautifully original V8 Volante with extensive service history offered for sale by second long term owner. Owned since 2004 purchased from Park Place Limited. First owner in California produced Flipper TV series and Mutual of Omaha's Wild Kingdom. Mileage was 41, 000.
Car was compression and leak down tested when I purchased. It arrived wearing original Avon Turbo Speed tires that were date coded to be age of car. Car was in good overall condition with nice patina, rubber bumpers, original paint, leather, and carpets. Driver's door re-painted in slightly mismatched color. Service history with car at purchase indicates water pump failure lead to cooked heads. Heads were removed, repaired, replaced in 1990.
I had car inspected at Steel Wings and gone through. Engine and carbs tuned; new brake boosters; replace all fluids. Car was happy and drove well for several seasons.
In my ownership, Treasured Motor Cars or Reisterstown, Md has performed yearly maintenance and repairs as necessary. Full service history on file going back to 1990. Under my ownership: new tires; clutch; remove and clean dash gauges, tach, and speedo; new brake pads; fit electronic ignition. 2011 engine was removed and photo documented re-built with crank turned; new racing pistons; heads de-coked; new exhaust valves; engine timing gear including timing chains and other apparatus replaced; new Euro base plate; 48mm Weber carbs; and Euro airbox installed. Brakes hoses upgraded to stainless braided. Suspension bushings, half shaft seals, and steering rack addressed 2014. Car is now at Treasured for annual service and any necessary preventive items.
The car has two small pencil point dings on left front fender; the driver's door re-painted; small scuff right rear quarter above running light; small ding right side rear bumper; one small pencil point sized ding front right fender. Front valence below bumper has road rash. The body work issues are minor and hard to notice. Sun crazing trunk lid. This is 35 year old lacquer paint.
The only thing I have not messed with is the paint, leather and carpet. Rubber door seals are mixed; some need repIace others are ok. I have put about 15, 000 miles on the car, often with dogs, kids and wife, or some combination thereof, aboard. I think it would be a shame to re-paint the car despite the bruises and microblistering on trunk hood; it just looks really nice. The interior on the other hand is ready for a sensitive upgrade. That will be my next project if the car fails to sell.
The top mechanism on my car is maintained and works perfectly. Rear plastic window is clear and top is serviceable. However, lined top is worn looking and deserves replacement.
The car drives dependably and well. It sounds cool- double over head cam V8 has a nice note. Acceleration is moderate as the car weighs about 3900 lbs. Brakes pull down well. Euro carbs and airbox boost horsepower moderately and allow full viewing access of the 4 Webers. Please see the pics. Air conditioning heat exchanger, York compressor, and two air pumps removed from car. That gets about 225lbs of dead weight off the car. All the removed parts convey with the car. Also included with the car are four BBS wheels; full set of used Aston pistons; 4 Weber 42mm carbs (original US Spec); and all parts changed out during engine re-build.
Market comparables show cars just like this one- properly maintained, never restored cars on original paint, are near the top of the value chain. Bonhams Scottsdale 2015 sold a 1978 4 speed Volante on Euro bumpers, airbox and carbs for $156, 000 all in illcuding buyers premium and seller's commission. That car is described as being rough.
They are only original once, and thhis is a highly original car that you can get in and confidently drive from Baltimore to California the day you own it. It will be up to the next owner to upgrade the interior to personal preference. In it's present state, this car presents a very rare opportunity to get a very desirable, original, vintage, drop top Aston with a proper 5 speed ZF-1 gear box and full service history. Contact owner through E-Bay to discuss your purchase. Opportunities like this are getting rarer so don't hesitate. Close the deal and start enjoying this unique, useable showpiece.
