for sale
Price: US $12,900.00
Price: US $12,900.00
Stock 2003 Audi RS6 with factory options: Daytona Gray
exterior, Ebony interior, wood trim and sound-enhanced exhaust. I added the
Audi RSN-E navigation unit. If you are
looking at this auction you probably know a little about the RS6. I am a long-time Audi enthusiast having owned
3 Audis in the last 11 years.
Please note: the RNS-E Audi navigation system is NOT
included in the price. If you wish to
include the RNS-E, you must add $900 to your final price. If the car is sold to a buyer who would not
like to include the RNS-E, then the sale price will include the factory Audi
Symphony II stereo/CD head unit installed and delivered with car. To reiterate: Price includes factory Audi
Symphony II head unit installed (NOT pictured). Final sale price +$900 will include optional Audi RNS-E navigation unit
installed (pictured).
I am the 3rd owner of this car. I purchased at 48, 482 miles in 2012 from
owner number #2. Owner #2 purchased from
his boss who was owner #1. I
communicated with both owners before I purchased the car to get background on
the car. Prior to 48K miles, the car was
driven very little especially by owner #1. From 2003 until 2012 the car was only driven 48K miles. From March 2012 until June 2013, I drove the
car 5, 320 miles. From June 2013 until
now, I have driven the car slightly lower than average use for a normal daily
driver for the period of time I have owned the car. You will notice a 4th registered owner just
before my ownership if you pull a carfax. This was the dealer I purchased the car from in Iowa who received it as
a trade-in by owner #2 on a new Range Rover Sport. I live in South Carolina and the car has been
in SC my entire ownership and under coverage of a Lexas Gold Care extended
service plan for the duration.
In full disclosure, you will notice an accident reported
by owner #1. This was a low speed
collision in a parking deck when someone backed into the driver's side rear
quarter panel and damaged the side, rear corner and tail light. The repair work is excellent with no visible
signs of body repair work to the normal eye.
I have performed all recommended and required maintenance
on the car since ownership. The DRC
recall has been performed by Audi and the suspension was just recharged 8K
miles ago. The car is in excellent
condition with minor wear and tear exposure. The Michelin Pilot Super Sport tires have 7K miles on them with ample
amount of rubber life left. Oil change
intervals at 5K miles with Mobile 1 and OEM or Mann filters only. The car received all 4 OEM upper control arms
and inner and outer tie rod ends 12K miles ago. A new OEM fuel filter was installed about 100 miles ago. New OEM alternator less than 2 years ago
(will have to look up miles). All Brake
pads and rotors are good with no pulsation or squeaking. Acceleration and stopping is strong and as
expected. The car has no mechanical
issues or concerns. The exception to
this is passenger side slight seeping valve cover gasket. It is not full leak and I have never smelled burning
oil or experience oil residue on belly pan when removed. Other than this, engine bay is clean, orderly
and with no concerns.
The two major concerns you will find with the RS6
platform are suspension and transmission. My car shifts smoothly and as expected in normal Drive. Shifting in Sport mode is as expected with
higher shift points and a little more lively shifting transitions. Suspension is solid and planted. No DRC bouncing or knocking. This DRC is the second generation with the
original platform recalled and installed under the Audi replacement
campaign. No issues whatsoever with
either transmission or suspension.
Given age of car, the interior is a 9 out of 10. Interior is in excellent condition. No rips, tears, cracks, notches or major scratches. There are smudges in the usual place like
kick panels, very bottom back of front seats, doors handles and some
buttons. Overall, the buttons have held
up very well with little wear off of the black coating which very common in
2002 and newer C5 platforms with the soft-touch generational interior
change. One exception to this is the
near complete removal of all soft-touch coating on the front passenger door
handle by my 12 year old son (!). Now, that handle is simply a slight gloss black instead of matt black. Car includes the rubber OEM Audi all weather
matts with no holes or cracks. The
carpet underneath is clean. The car is
100% non-smoking car.
Exterior overall is an 8.5 out of 10. I rate it this way due to a few localized
blemishes. Overall, paint is very shiny
and polishes well with a good clay bar and wax. There are no paint issues related to fading, hazing or
discoloration. The car has been garaged
90% of it’s life by both me and the previous owners. The car shows very well when cleaned. The wheels have minor curb rash produced by
previous owner – I am not majorly concerned about small wheel rash so I have
not had repaired. There is also a small
½ slight dent in the passenger side rear door (thank you other son with
scooter). There is a small crack, less
then 1” long, in the lower lip of the front bumper. It is minor but it is noticeable if you look
for it. Additionally, there is a small
scratch in the paint on the hood near the grill which has been sealed but not
completely repaired. I replaced the
grill with a new OEM grill when I purchased the car as the honeycomb was
cracked with a small piece missing. The
previous owner told me a shovel in his garage fell and hit the front part of
hood and grill and that was origination of the hood damage. It is small.
Regarding the RNS-E navigation… I took my time and wired
this to the factory sharkfin GPS antenna on roof instead of installing the
typically included ‘hockey puck’ antenna up under the dash. 6-7 satellites
locked on and registered in the RNS-E 100% of the time.
Overall, this is a solid, reliable and of course the
fastest color RS6. The car performs as
expected in all areas and I have no complaints or concerns. Acceleration is strong, braking is
exceptional and handling is superb. The
Cosworth engine sound is normal with no odd sounds or concerns. Mechanically, the car is perfect.
If you are looking for a Daytona Gray RS6, this is an
excellent example with relatively low miles and well-cared for by an Audi
enthusiast. If you have any questions at
all please feel free to ask.
