Description:

Rare 1971 Austin AMERICA. This car is made by British Leyland of Birmingham England. You never see these, but they were made from 1968 to 1972 for export to the United States only. They manufactured approximately 55, 500 only to try to compete with the Volkswagon Beetle. There probably are very few left. This one is mostly original, but the paint has been touched up. It's a running, driving car, but not a show car. If you are into these cars, this one would be worth restoring. It's very solid, and not all beat up. It has 76, 136 actual miles on the odometer, and has a clear title. The wheels and hub caps are all original, and even has a matching spare rim, although the tire won't hold air. The tires on the car are not good either, but do hold air and have half the tread left. The floor boards are not rusted out. There is flaking rust on the underside, but it just needs sand blasted off. There is minor rust in the trunk. This is a front wheel drive, four cylinder car. This one has the rare automatic 3 speed transmission. It seems to shift well. I've only driven it a few miles. I just bought it for resale, as I know it's a rare car. The interior is in very decent condition, but the drivers seat has some rips in the seat part. Also the rubber part of the gas pedal is missing, and has a pair of vise grips clamped to the rod. It works the throttle well, but looks bad. I found this car stored in a garage, and the owner said it had been in there 20 years. It preserved the car well, but he left the gas in it, and mixed new gas with the old to show me it ran. So the tank needs drained. It starts ok, but you can smell the old gas when running. It takes awhile to run correctly (cold blooded), but I think it's the old gas. And lastly, the ignition sometimes doesn't want to start the car. They do sell new ignition switches, and it's easy to change, but I use a screwdriver on the back of the ignition to jump a couple wires when it won't turn over. I'll pay for a new ignition if the car sells for my low reserve price. All lights and turn signals work well. This is a very restorable car. It's not for me, but if you collect British cars, it may be for you. As for payment, I do NOT use paypal. I accept cash, bank cashiers check, or wire transfer. I can have the car shipped anywhere in the United States. If you are overseas, I can get it to the port of your choice. Buyer is responsible for all shipping costs. I buy and sell cars and classic motorcycles at least 35 years old, so let me know what you have, and maybe we can work something out. Email with any questions, or my phone number. Thank you for looking, and may God Bless You All. Rich
