This auction is for my 1954 Austin Healey 100. I started working on the car 2.5 years ago, but I have too many projects and not enough time, so I am going to attempt to pass a few off.
Current Condition & what I have restored or replaced.-The car is running and driving, but the brakes do not work. I have replaced all of the drum brake cylinders, but the pads on the rear still need to be replaced. Apparently nobody sells them, so they must be sent off to a company like white post restoration to have new pads riveted to the liners. The fluid has also been completely flushed and replaced with new. The master cylinder is new and I will include the original one as well. I removed, blasted, and repainted the reservoir, but unfortunately fluid spilled on the paint and it is now just bare steel. All of the drums were blasted and then painted.-Front and Rear springs were replaced with new units from MOSS motors.-Shocks were topped off with new fluid.-Valve Covers and Valve Cover gaskets replaced-Oil Changed with fresh 10w-30 and new filter-Distributor rebuilt by Lars Grimsrud and set up to work with the Duntov 097 mechanical camshaft. Previously the car had a very old electronic ignition system that was very temperamental, so i removed those components and installed the rebuilt points distributor. A new MSD blaster 2 coil was also installed.-Replaced starter motor.(starter is out of a 57 Corvette)-Replaced starter wiring.-New sway bar bushings and mounts-New Tires. Also, the car has later model wheels with more spokes.
Body-
What has been done and what is needed. The trunk, driver's door, driver's quarter, and Driver's fender were blasted then sprayed with black epoxy primer. I have not replaced any of the metal, but here is what I have and what is needed.-Lower front quarter patches(both sides)-Front wheel well patch panels-Door latch brackets-Door Latch Pillars-Driver's and passenger outer sill.(I have the driver's inner and outer sill panels, but not the passenger side)-Driver's lower fender patch panel. The body needs to come completely apart in order to be restored correctly. You will need to purchase the passenger side sills as well as a rear trunk floor panel. Most of the metal is in good shape, but for whatever reason, rust really set in on the outer sills and on the front sections of the rear wheel wells just behind the doors. Oddly, the rear of the quarters and wheel wells are fine with only minor rust and no rot. The front lower nose has a poor repair and while it is not visible from the front side, it is very visible from the back. Someone split the middle of the panel to pull out a dent, attached aluminum to the rear of the panel where they made the split, then filled the void with body filler.
Frame
This car has been in a front end collision. The front driver's lower control arm mount has been re-welded and reinforced. I recommend replacing the lower control arm mounts on the driver's side.I was considering replacing the entire frame with a new Jules Frame, which runs around 3200.00. If you are going to add more power to the car, it might be a wise investment to do so.
Engine and transmission
The engine is a 1957 Chevrolet 283 V8 with a duntov097 mechanical camshaft. The car starts right up and runs well with no smoke showing from the exhaust. I do not know the history of this car, so I can't say how many miles are on the motor, but the oil pressure is great and as mentioned previously, there is no smoke coming from the exhaust. The transmission is a 3 speed manual with overdrive from a 1957 Belair. It shifts well, but I personally would replace the transmission with a 4 speed Muncie.
I have only driven the car up and down my street a few times, but it seems to do well. Now that the car does not have brakes, I have only tested the new suspension out on a dirt road, but i must say, the car rides very well with the new suspension from what I can tell.
Electrical
The electrical system on this car scares me and I would recommend installing a new harness from American Auto Wire. It will be a worthwhile investment as the wiring in the car is a mix of old and new with random fuse panels and junction boards. The gauges are a mix of different brands. My plan was to replace them with the autometer cobra style gauges which will fit the stock holes in the healey dash.
-This is a big project, but the car is certainly worthy of being restored. The BN1 models are my favorite and are becoming quite difficult to find.-The original colors of the car are Black with Black and off-white interior. The original black paint is still visible on the panels that have not been blasted.
-Alabama does not title antique cars, so this car will be sold on a BILL of Sale only, which will be notarized. Car is sold as is where is and the buyer is responsible for transportation.
