1954 Austin Healey 100-4

Austin Healey 100-4 (1954)
for sale

Price: US $32,300.00

Description:

Synopsis: 1954 AH 100 BN1 RHD. Approx. 8% of the BN1 and BN2 production run of 14, 634 units was devoted to RHD manufacture. This resulted in 1100 to 1200 examples of which perhaps half remain [approaching “M” rarity]. Serial no. BN1/159281. This car had been the recipient of a V-8 engine conversion. I would surmise that this was probably done in the 60’s or 70’s. Neither the V-8 nor original engine and gearbox were with the car when purchased. The car retains nearly all its original components i.e. front and rear suspensions, steering, fuel, electrical, gauges, braking system, wheels [48 spoke painted] and Dunlop SP 20 165R15 tires. I purchased the car with the intention of completing a gold level restoration and have spent the last three years acquiring parts. You will note a BN1 and BN2 in the background of some photos. Both these cars are nearing completion and I now find myself, at my age, having neither the desire nor will to undertake another restoration. Thus the sale. The serial no. tag is still affixed to the chassis frame rail as well as the nearly always missing plastic stamped tag affixed to the right side kick panel. Complete with heritage certificate and title in my name. Body—Very straight external panels and trim with minor dents. No evidence of having ever been in an accident. There is corrosion at the bottom of both rear fender doglegs as well as RH rocker sill near dogleg. The front fenders have been cut out for the placement of air vents and both rear fenders have holes cut so the exhaust may pass thru [dual exhaust]. The boot has a couple of small corrosion areas as do the rear floorboards. The front chassis crossmember requires replacement. The installation of a V-8 engine in a 100-4 necessitates the removal of the motor mount brackets and modification of both pedal box extrusions. I have purchased all the sheet metal components [Kilmartin] needed to complete the body and chassis repairs [see parts photos]. The boot and floorboards are small patch repairs but I decided to purchase complete units. Your choice. Chassis and underbody have surface rust only- with the exception of the front crossmember. Battery boxes are complete. Additionally the car comes with an extra louvered aluminum bonnet, an aftermarket hardtop missing its rear plexiglass window, and a front shroud that has had the grill opening modified. Interior—Complete from Moss Motors in navy per heritage certificate. Includes all panels, carpet set with under felts, and seat covers. I have not purchased a top or tonneau. I have, however, restored the top frame. I removed the excellent black armacord boot liner kit from my BN2 for this car. Used a new red kit in the BN2. The original side curtains with storage bag are exceptional. Original seats require recovering. Chrome Trim—I removed very good front and rear bumpers complete with overriders from my BN2 for this car. Ordered repros from AH Spares for BN2. Very good grill and surround. Purchased a new windshield. All other trim is presentable. Electrical—New wiring harness. Also have included the original harness from the BN2 with all attachments i.e. solenoid, regulator, and relays. All of these components work! I purchased new for the BN2 to avoid detailing parts. The heater and wiper motor work. Complete switches and gauges with new grommet set. Starter very good but do not know the condition of the generator. Cooling System—I removed the radiator with a Moss electric fan from the BN2 for this car. Detailed and ready for installation. Car will not overheat with this set-up. Also new hoses. Brakes—Removed all near new brake lines from BN2 for use with this car. There are also misc. wheel cyl. repairs kits included. Suspension—Removed very good rear leaf springs from BN2 for this car. New rear hubs. Engine and 3-speed gearbox—I purchased the engine and gearbox from Giodarno Motors. Jim had purchased 2 100-4’s from Emil Smith and this engine and transmission was included in the package. I called Emil [ a gentleman in his late 80’s] and asked him if he had any info on the engine and transmission. He stated that he had purchased them from Bill Bolton [Pacific Northwest AH icon and parts supplier] many years ago and that the set-up was from a 100-4 that had only 5000 original miles when totaled. Contacted Bolton, now retired, for confirmation but said he was not able to remember that far back. The engine turns over and will run. Missing ID tag but I secured one from Clarke Spares 1B/214554. Concours detail. Tools and Manuals—Complete tool kit with original knockoff hammer, B1077 jack with handle and bags. Original service and owners manuals-not repros. Stoneguards There are many more new and spare parts with car. Starting Price—$33, 300 What I have into the car less labor For an additional $3700 I will include a BN2 TRANSMISSION and bellhousing with new clutch assembly from AHSPARES. I was told the transmission was rebuilt but have no evidence. Questions: 206-842-1346 or 360-204-8419 I am not a fan of e-mails, I would prefer that you visit the car or have someone do so for you. Car is sold as is.
