Purchased last year from a neighbor after 31 years of
trying. I was hoping I could get it
running and drive it around and enjoy it “as is”, but I have reluctantly
decided that with an E-Type, a MK 2, and a TR250 I do not have time to get to
this car. I am not real knowledgeable
about Healeys but this is what I can tell you: This is an early 100-6, and has been off the road since 1978. It moved to Oregon from California in 1979, but has never been registered in Oregon, residing on blocks in dry storage for
the last 38 years. The previous owner
started to restore the car but only got as far as taking a few things off (wheels, grill, carburators, radiator, etc.) before losing motivation.
Unlike so many of the unrestored cars you see these days, it
doesn’t look like someone walked around it whacking it with a baseball
bat. The car is unusually straight. The doors, boot lid and bonnet fit nicely. The gaps
all the way around look good-- I think as they left the factory. The doors
don’t sag, and they open and close with a nice thunk. I can’t see any significant sheet metal damage
from being hit in either the front, or the rear. The floors look a little
suspect to me—I would probably replace them and the sills—but what is amazing
is I cannot find a single rust bubble anywhere on the rear fenders, on either
of the doors, or on the front fenders. Spending 20 years in California, and then almost 40 years in storage, made a difference. After oiling the cylinders I put a wrench on the damper bolt and it turned easily. The motor is free.
In addition to what you can see the car comes
with the grill, top bows, a convertible top that is useable, a tonneau cover, the
radiator & fan, a spare tire, a pair of side curtains, used and new (in the
box) brake parts, a new (in the box) master cylinder, new red rear lenses (and
chrome rings), new clear front lenses, and new chrome headlight rings. The only thing I am aware is missing are the air cleaners. There may be something else, but I can’t think of what it might be.
The car rolls and steers easily. I will assist buyer/shipper in loading car for shipment.
