You are bidding on a 1966 Austin-Healey 3000 Mark III in exceptional condition. This is the final incarnation of the iconic “Big Healey” complete with roll-up windows, wood dash, power disk brakes, “drop head” top and other worthwhile features. This car was purchased new in Charlotte, NC in January 1967 and has always had a North Carolina owner.
The present owner bought the car in 1991 and has taken it with him to job assignments in England, California and Texas. He has now retired and is back in the Tar Heel State…with his beloved Austin-Healey. Yet the time has come to trade the Healey in on a golf cart, so this is your opportunity to buy one of the best BJ8s available anywhere.
This Phase II BJ8 has been meticulously maintained since its restoration in 1996 by Absolutely British in Ontario, CA. The engine and gearbox were rebuilt again in 2013 to a high standard boasting strong oil pressure at any speed and 160 psi of compression. A “Texas Cooler” radiator fan and coolant recovery bottle insure cool running regardless of the outside temperature. The spin-on oil filter conversion makes for easy oil changes.
Hendrix Wire Wheel in Greensboro, NC has balanced the entire drive train, completely banishing the dreaded “scuttle shake” …this Healey rides as smoothly as any modern car. The engine starts easily thanks in part to the gear reduction starter and Pertronix electronic ignition. The signature Austin-Healey 3000 exhaust note is provided by a factory style Falcon stainless steel system.
The car is extremely fast, yet tractable and handles superbly due to the taunt suspension. The Kumho 165/80-15 steel belted radials are mounted on sixty spoke chrome wire wheels. The solid clutch and overdrive gearbox make for easy shifting and the power disk brakes stop the car quickly and safely.
The sleek body is resplendent in Healey Ice Blue over Old English White; certainly the most popular factory color combination there is. The body is completely rust and collision damage free, with panel gaps better than when delivered new. The doors open and shut nicely, and the windows wind up and down easily.
The blue interior complements the body color scheme, and the leather and carpet are quite presentable. The top and tonneau cover are as new and have been carefully fitted to withstand wet weather. Included is an Auto-Farm “portable garage” that covers the top, windows and windshield in the unfortunate event that the Healey is left outside. The Moto-Lita “Derrington” wooden steering wheel goes well with the lovely burl walnut dash board. The dash top, glass, rubber and bright-work are all very nice. The chrome factory-style luggage rack and wicker picnic basket are perfect accessories. The original BMC AM radio has been with the Healey since new, but is not connected.
Reams of documentation come with the car, including a British Motor Heritage certificate, NC title search showing all the previous owners, restoration invoices totaling many thousands of dollars, and numerous books and manuals. The owner is an old friend of mine and has asked me to list this quality Austin-Healey 3000 for him on eBay. I can vouch for the amazing condition of this automobile and feel qualified to provide my unbiased assessment.
