1963 Austin Healey 3000

Austin Healey 3000 (1963)
for sale

Price: US $1,000.00

Description:

1963 Austin Healey 3000 Mark II BJ7 2+2 convertible in Healey Blue.
This car was purchased by its current owner at the RM Monterey auction in August of 2005, and it has remained on the Monterey Peninsula ever since. The car had only 16 test miles after a full restoration at the time of purchase, and it has been driven sparingly in the 11+ years of ownership. It presently shows just 744 miles on the odometer. It was driven down the Big Sur coast periodically or taken on the occasional drive through Pebble Beach, but aside from that it has always been in the garage. The owner has decided that while she loves the car, it doesn't get used enough and it is time to pass it along for someone else to enjoy.
This is a beautiful car that would be a great candidate for a vintage rally or show enthusiast. It is an excellent driver, displays nicely, and needs little to be a perfect example.
I have driven this car recently and it runs, drives, and stops as it should. It has excellent acceleration, tracks straight, and stops well. All functions operate, with the exception of the few items noted below.
You would be hard-pressed to find another example of this model and fully restore it to this level for anywhere near our reserve price.
I encourage you to ask any and all questions you may have about the car before you bid.

This car underwent a high quality full nut-and-bolt restoration by a marque specialist approximately 11+ years ago. Some highlights of the restoration include:
-The body and chassis were both media blasted and taken down to bare metal before being re-painted in Healey Blue.
-All chrome was replated.
-All new parts were used to rebuild the engine; pistons, rings, bearings, seals, etc. and all ancillary systems were given the same treatment.
-A completely new fuel system was installed; new tank and hard/soft lines all the way up to the fully rebuilt twin SU carburetors.
-A new stainless steel exhaust was also fitted.
-New interior, including carpet, seat foam, panel kit, top and top frame, and tonneau cover.
Please cut-and-paste the following link to view the photo galleries containing several photos of the restoration, dozens of more recent images, and a video of the car running: boardhoarder.use.com
The car also benefits from $3500.00+ of recent work to be sure that it is fully roadworthy.
Some highlights of what was done within the last 100 miles or so include:
-Repair of fuel pump
-Remove gas tank and re-seal at sending unit, install new brass tank float (due to small leak at sending unit gasket).
-Repair of non-operating overdrive.
-Minor tune up, including new condenser and distributor rotor. Timing also adjusted. Carburetor float bowls removed and sediment cleaned out. Dashpots were removed, cleaned and polished to prevent pistons from sticking.
-Emergency brake linkage was lubricated and adjusted.
-A new battery was installed.
As with any car of this vintage, there are some flaws worth pointing out. The following are items that could use attention to really bring the car to the next level:
-The windshield washer pump isn't working at the moment (it may be working by the end of the auction- no guarantee, though).
-While the chrome looks great in the photos, a few pieces are starting to show some pitting. The worst of it being on the back bumper (mostly one particular spot), the door handles, small spots on a couple of the wheels, and the grille. While you may have to look close at these areas to see it, the defects are certainly worth mentioning.
-Also, the tires are in perfect condition visually and treadwear wise. They show no signs whatsoever of cracking or dry-rot. However, because they are more than 11 years old, I wanted to make note of it. This is a safety issue, so please realize that if you purchase the car, you are driving on these tires at your own risk.
