Austin Healey 3000 BT7 Roadster (1960)
for sale
Price: US $5,100.00
Price: US $5,100.00
This is a beautiful older restoration on a 1960 BT7
with 120, 620 miles. Beautiful color combination of Colorado Red with Black
coves, chrome wire wheels and vintage California yellow plates (tags good until
June 2016). The British Motor Industry
Heritage Certificate shows it was built on the 8th of April in 1960
and delivered to San Francisco. It was well equipped with wire wheels, overdrive, heater, adjustable steering column, laminated windscreen, road
speed tyres, tonneau cover and convertible top. The original four-speed manual gearbox with Laycock overdrive was replaced with a modern 5 speed Toyota transmission by the previous owner. Though I have the original four-speed manual gearbox with Laycock overdrive if you want to reinstall it. The car does not appear to have been a rusty car. The
Healey has a STRONG run and drive, very tight and responsive with that
wonderful BIG HEALEY exhaust note. All gauges are in good condition (the fuel
gauge indicator does bounce a bit). The aluminum body panels are straight. The
interior components are in great condition. It’s truly a beautiful car that
loves to be driven. It does have a few small paint blemishes, which I can send you photos on request. See the 24 pictures and feel free to contact me at
415-205-9694. Independent inspections are welcomed and encouraged.
Specifications: 2, 912 CC OHV inline six-cylinder
engine, twin S.U. semi-downdraft carburetors, 130 bhp at 4, 750 rpm, hydraulic
front disc, rear drum brakes, independent wishbone-and-coil-spring front
suspension, ¾-floating rear axle with semi-elliptic leaf springs.
While the term ‘icon’ is vastly over-used in
reference to the world’s greatest postwar sporting cars, it applies well and
truly to the Austin-Healey roadster. Blessed with an excellent pedigree, the
Austin-Healey was conceived in 1952 by racer Donald Healey in response to a
BMC-sponsored competition for a new sports car using Austin mechanical
components. Featuring sleek Gerry Coker-designed “envelope” bodywork, a
low-slung chassis designed by Barry Bilbie, and engineering led by Donald’s
son, Geoff, the “Hundred” sports roadster electrified the 1952 Earl’s Court
Motor Show, and with the blessing of BMC’s Leonard Lord, it entered production
in early 1953 as the Austin-Healey 100-4. Constant improvement and top-level
racing success made the Austin-Healey an instant legend, particularly in the
eager and lucrative American market.
The quest for greater power and performance led to
the six-cylinder 100/6 in 1956 and by 1959, the car evolved into the definitive
Austin-Healey 3000 Mark I with its engine enlarged to 3.0 liters, the gearbox
improved, and new front disc brakes. Often referred to as the “Big Healey” in relation
to the tiny Austin-Healey Sprite, the 3000 Mark I was available in two
sub-models, the BN7 two-seater and Grand Touring-oriented BT7 2+2. With further
updates, the Austin-Healey 3000 continued through two more evolutions before
production finally ceased in 1968.
Offered complete with a British Motor Industry
Heritage Trust Certificate, this truly beautiful 1960 Austin-Healey 3000 BT7 Mark
I 2+2 is an original left-hand drive, North American Export model. Finished in
rare Colorado Red over Black livery. Highly desirable factory options included
wire wheels, adjustable steering column, laminated windscreen, overdrive, a
heater, and Road speed tires.
Equipped with full weather gear including a black
convertible top, tonneau cover, tools and side screens in their proper storage
bag. Includes owner’s and service manuals and Healey DVD.
