is a striking, mechanically fantastic, entirely solid and numbers matching 1964
Austin Healey 3000 MK III BJ8 finished in beautiful Colorado Red over a black
interior. The recipient of a rotisserie restoration in the 1990s by its Austin
Healey Club member owner, it was subsequently toured and shown for the better
part of two decades. While not participating in events, the car was always
properly garaged and maintained to the highest standard, its enthusiast owner
always ensuring that its mechanicals were in top form.
The original engine
starts easily, idles consistently and pulls with grin-inducing force through
each of the transmission’s gears. Compression is strong and even, the overdrive
is functional and the car drives brakes straight and true and ride. Spirited
and visceral, it’s an absolute joy to drive, as we experienced while photographing it
in the Santa Barbara foothills. Despite the searing 90 degree temperatures, the car showed absolutely no indication of overheating.
The Colorado Red
finish is in excellent condition, exhibiting only the most insignificant of
imperfections, none of which are big enough to appear in the pictures. The
chrome, glass and rubber are all in good shape and the chassis and
undercarriage are in excellent condition, entirely straight, solid and free of
harmful corrosion. The interior is gorgeous, the seats, carpets, dash and
interior panels showing only the most negligible of wear and the wood dash
inserts are in excellent condition.

This
is an excellent opportunity to acquire a wonderful appreciating classic with
all the right things going for it: corrosion-free, numbers matching, mechanically strong and finished in a timeless sporting livery. With “Big
Healey” auction results routinely fetching sales prices nearing and often
surpassing six figures, they represent a unique segment of the classic car
market: highly collectible with good appreciation potential, but with strong weekend
driver examples still priced somewhat accessibly so that you can actually enjoy
driving them. And that’s a good thing, because they are far too fun from behind
the wheel to relegate them to garages or trailers on the way to shows. This car
is no exception, undoubtedly providing its next owner with countless enjoyable
driving experiences in an asset that will only increase in value over time.

accurate descriptions of the cars we’re selling, but we’re enthusiasts, not
experts, and we encourage and are happy to help facilitate personal or
professional inspections. But please do so before bidding, as the alternative
harms our ability to make sales to other interested parties who have done their
proper due diligence before bidding.
