150 bhp, 2, 912 cc inline six-cylinder engine with twin HD8 SU carburetors, four-speed manual transmission with overdrive, independent front suspension with coil springs and live rear axle with semi-elliptic rear springs, and servo-assisted front disc and rear drum brakes, heater, and wire wheels. Wheelbase: 92 in.
Over the years, the Austin-Healey progressed from being the sturdy, fun-to-drive two-seater with a folding top and side screens, to a sophisticated touring convertible with wind-up windows. The 3000 Mark III also known as the BJ8, was the final iteration of the make. It added new refinements, including a walnut veneer-trimmed interior, redesigned seats with a rear seat suitable for children, an easy-to-erect top, and an adjustable steering column, and also better performance by making engine modifications, such as a new camshaft design, stronger valve springs, and two-inch SU HD8 carburetors. Servo-assisted brakes were now standard equipment. As a result, the 3000 Mark III is the most desired “Big Healey.”
The car offered here is from the last year of production, and it s a legitimate three owner car. The colorscheme is English White over the original black upholstery which is nicely patinated, consistent with age and millage. It has a new black top that is factory-correct, and two tonneau covers. Finished to what can only be described as nice driver standards, the current owner sorted all systems and is ready to be enjoyed. The result is a Healey whose appearance shines as much as its performance. It will be a pleasure to drive and to own. The current authentic mileage is only 38646 miles. It was purchased new on Sept 22, 1966, copy of the original invoice for $3888.90 is available. Upon the owners demise it was inherited by his daughter and stored. Current owner purchased it on 9/10/13, sorted all systems, installing new: stainless steel exhaust system, six blade motor fan, modern Pirelli radial tires, wood dashboard (the original is included), new correct soft top, carpets, trunk liner kit, battery and fuel pump. Also overhauled brake system including master cylinder and new rear shoes as well as the clutch including new master cylinder.
This is a very original 3-owner version of the desirable last of the “Big Healeys”. The car in in good running order.
