I’m
listing this rare vehicle for a friend.
Austin
FX4, Austin London Taxicab, titled as 1965 but more likely a 1969/1970, with
approximately 45, 000 miles on the replacement engine.
Jaguar
Yellow/ Green exterior, Black interior, Chevy Vortec V6 Engine, Automatic
Transmission, radio AM/FM/CD, Air conditioning.
Vehicle Condition:
You
are bidding on an Austin 1969 (Registered in the US as 1965) in great condition
inside and out.
Car
is currently registered and insured in California.
Body: no rust, no dents. Glass
in very good shape.
Paint: Car was painted 10
years ago and still has a hyper glossy British green paint. Paint looks very
good and extremely shiny all around; vehicle has been painted with DuPont
Chroma base paint and clear coat (label with paint type & code and a quart
of paint is included) then wet sanded and polished. The car was stripped completely
when painted.
Weather-stripping: Most of the door and
trunk seals look new. Seals surrounding the front window vents look old but they
still do the job. Windshield and rear glass seals look like new. Some window
weather stripping in need of replacement.
Instruments and Warning lights: All in
perfect working condition. All external lights, turn signals, hazard lights, high beams, instrument cluster lights in good working condition.
Speedometer and odometer are working fine.
Climate Control: Air
conditioning blows cold but in hot days lower temperature air is needed to cool
the vehicle nicely. A Freon recharge will help. Heater does need to be checked.
Interior: Vinyl
seats in excellent shape, carpet in excellent shape, Headliner in excellent
shape, dashboard in excellent shape, center console in excellent shape, door
panels in very good shape. This is a
non-smoker vehicle!
Headliner:
in excellent shape
Sound System: Phase Linear brand
with CD player and removable face. Speakers only on front doors.
Miscellaneous: Jack and
wrench included. Haynes service manual for engine and Austin service
manual for rest of vehicle are included.
Exterior: Chrome bumpers and bumper
moldings in very good shape (lights and plastics in very good shape with no
fading or cracking).
Wheels: Original
steel wheels in excellent shape
structurally and cosmetically. No curb damage.
Tires: tires
with plenty of thread left (+60%) in four corners. Spare tire in very good
shape.
Engine: 3.0
Chevy Blazer Vortec V6 engine
230 ci 3.8L C,
in very good condition with just 45, 000 miles. Always
starts at the first turn, idles smooth, runs great and extremely powerful, doesn’t
burn or take any oil. No leaks. There is a squealing noise coming from the belt
tensioner.
Automatic Transmission: Transmission
is the original match for the Vortec engine. Excellent, Shifts smooth and
precise, Fluid is Crystal Clear. No noises or weird sounds!! No leaks!! Recently
serviced.
Freeway driving: Final gear and transmission are setup in a way that allows the vehicle to cruise at 65-70 mph without effort.
Suspension and Steering:
Excellent ride, feels very solid. Steering has some play (I believe can be
manually adjusted from the steering box but have not tried). Also there is a
small leak from its bottom seal. When
doing a slow sharp turn sometimes you can hear a cracking noise from one of the
suspension bushings. Front sub frame bushings look kind of dry but they are pretty
solid.
Brakes: Good
condition. Car stops straight with absolutely
no vibrations or noises. Power brakes
with double circuit. Brake drums in four corners.
Restoration and Modifications:
- Chevy Blazer V6 Vortec engine with accompanying
automatic tranny – powerful!

Air Products MPC-1100 Heat/Air Conditioning unit; an extra cooling fan sits in
front of the condenser, with dash-mounted on/off switch

harness from Summit Engineering; interior has an Autometer full gauge set

door-mounted speakers

- Flat, walnut veneer dash crafted to install the HVAC
vents and controls, radio, etc., and is easily lowered with just two screws for
easy access to wiring
- Universal turn signal switch with hazard arm installed

Issues:
Paint: it is
wrinkled at the top of the front grille, front doors are chipped by the front
edge, rear left door has a paint bubble of about an inch diameter. If you look
at the rear door when light is reflecting there is a long vertical line (about
7” long) that looks like a ding mark. There are some hairline cracks on top of
the rear fenders where they sit on the body (I believe the sealer in between
cracked over the years). The trunk has some hairline cracks and blemishes. Roof
has one or two blemishes. Sunroof does not leak because it has been sealed with
silicone sealer or similar that cosmetically does not look very good. Air vent
door by the windshield have been sealed and cannot be opened. Windshield
washers are sealed and are not operational. I believe all that sealing has been done to avoid a leak that occurs when
exposed to rain. Windows have light streaked patina, with most noticeable on
front windshield. Right rear window lock not operating properly. Interior heat
not routed properly, at least in front. Turn signal indicator is intermittently
temperamental. Rubber boot around gear shift needs to be glued down. Rear
passenger seat has two seams in need of a tiny bit of re-stitching. Extra, driver door-mounted mirror is useless and s/b removed.
