Description:

Rare 1967 BMW 1600. The original body type that predates the popular two door BMW 2002. It has become more collectable in recent years especially the highly coveted 2002tii. The was only the second year for the 1600, so its a very early VIN, and collectable. This car retains many of the original unique features of the early 1600's, however through its life some things have been altered. Overall the condition is good, but it is a driver's car, not a Pebble Beach show car. The engine has been upgraded to a 1976 2002 version with a 32/36 weber carb. The motor pulls strong and burns no oil. The car retains its original 6 volt charging system. I have added a new generator and voltage regulator. This car likes to be driven every day. I have the impossible to find football washer reservoir which is included with purchase. The rare 6 volt fuse cover is also present. The windshield wiper motor appears new but is not currently working. This car is not driven in the rain, so its not an issue for me. Transmission is the 4-speed manual and clutch is fine. This car has torque and will peel out in first and chirp in second. The brakes are fully functioning and will lock the wheels like older cars do. I have added new ball joints, tie-rod ends and replaced all suspension bushing. The car rides on Bilsteins HD struts and shocks; firm but not harsh. Added a 22mm front sway bar. All strut/shock mounting locations are solid with no rust whatsoever. Speaking of rust; there is no structural rust at all. Rockers, floor pans, gas pedal, spare wheel, frame rails all solid. Replaced original skinny wheels with period correct, Gotti, two-piece, 6 x 13 wheels and new off-brand tires. Original steel wheels included. Hubcaps look like slotted later style to me. Interior was rough when I purchased this car. The originally color was gray. It has been replaced with the two-tone black and brown panels. The new arm rests are from the later 2002 versions. The dash was toast and it has been recovered. Head lights. turn signal and brake lights work, Rear seat delete. However, I do have a set of black E24 rear seats that are a popular replacement, included with purchase. Interior is livable but could use a little more TLC. Very nice pair of fully functioning, black E21 Recaros. Original interior: Ugly front seats, door panels, arm rests and rear seat included. Console is from earlier 1800 I believe. I added a cheapo radio w/ USB with its own battery for tunes. One Bose cube satellite speaker. Current exterior color is white, repainted several years back. Original color was Turf green. The paint is okay; not great. Car body has some minor imperfections typical of a 49 year old car. Yes, this car will be 50 next year. Note, rust in typical areas of body: front of lower doors and rear quarter panels. Never bothered me, plus I haven't seen too many that don't have it. The car featured the original swan mirror. Fairly hard to come by. Oh yeah, its got passengers side mirror too. Flush, turn signals. I have an original 1967 brochure and a good deal of paperwork that are also included. Some extra parts and any parts removed included: bumperettes, extra coil, and parts mentioned above. Title is clear, Texas blue and has no salvage, lien. This is an appreciating classic that will put a smile on your face every time you drive it. Buyer is responsible for all shipping charges and arrangements, however I will help as needed. Please note shipping and payment information below. Be aware that car is available for sale elsewhere so this listing may be removed at any time.
