History
I am the 2nd owner of this car. First owner also lived locally and had the car serviced at New Motors BMW in Erie, PA. He only drove it in the summer, so it did not see any snow for the first 11 years of it's life. I purchased the car in 2013 with 68k miles with the intentions driving it as much as I could, which shows in the 48k miles I have put on it in the last three years. I maintained it like I was going to own it for the next 10 years, which shows in the receipts for all of the fixes and paint to fix the rock chips. I also own an E36 328iS 5 speed manual project car, which I like so much that I want to by an E36 M3, hence I need to sell my M5 first for the garage space. I also recently started a new job with a 100 mile round trip commute, of which a slightly more fuel efficient car would be good.
It's rare to find a well maintained E39 M5 that is still in stock condition and serviced with OEM parts.

Condition (I am happy to answer any questions or take more specific photos upon request)
Note: All replaced parts have been with OEM BMW parts, except for the front brake rotors.
Interior - 9.5/10 - Never been smoked in. The car hasn't sat out in the hot sun either, so the wood trim and leather is in great condition. The leather has no tears in it, but has some very mild wear on the driver's side bolster. The car has the very desirable Carmel interior with the extended leather package. The alcantara headliner is perfect, as well as the carpet. Fold down rear seats and a cargo net in the rear.
Body - 9/10 Several sections of the car have been fully repainted to fix rock chips including the front bumper, hood, front corners, driver's side door, rocker panels and the rear bumper. Plastic pieces replaced include: passenger wheel liners, front plastic grill mesh, front and rear bumpers. The paint is 1-2 years old, so there are a few rock chips in the hood, but it looks really good for a 14 year old car. I had all of the small dents removed two years ago, so there only few if you take 5 minutes and look really hard at all the door surfaces. There is one small ding on the passenger side. I take it to car shows all the time, and I get great comments from people who see it where ever I go.
Electronics - 9.5/10 All the lights work. Dash cluster pixels are ~95% working, depending on outside temperature. 2015 battery. All the switches, buttons and sensors work flawlessly. Working MKIII navigation, which I find useful. 6 disk cd player, cassette player and 18 channel presets for the radio with steering wheel buttons. It has settings to turn on the fan on hot days at a particular time for 30 minutes (great for summer days at work). Working dual zone climate control and ice cold AC. Heated front seats. All exterior lights are working and have OEM bulbs (has the epic angel eyes halo running lights). I have all 4 original keys. The car has three washer fluid pumps (normal windshield, headlights, and intense windshield) and the normal pump is not working right now. The other windshield washer pump still works and uses a 2nd tank, so it's not a big problem.
Engine - 10/10 - Runs perfect and meticulously maintained with all new sensors (2X mass airflow, 4X cam position, 4X oxygen), new thermostat. Uses a quart of oil about once every 5, 000 miles. 5W-30 Mobil 1 full synthetic and a new filter every 5, 000 miles. Recently replaced platinum BMW OEM NGK spark plugs. No check engine lights. VANOS rattle is minimal if none at all. The exhaust system is still stock and in one piece (very rare to still find).
Drivetrain - 7/10 - New dual mass flywheel and clutch, center bearing, u-joint, flex disk, transmission mounts in December 2015. Put new factory shifter bushings and transmission fluid in the summer of 2014. Under full throttle acceleration in 1st gear, there is a clunk coming from the rear differential every once in a while. I had it at the dealer for 10 days and they couldn't re-create the clunk. I've looked at all of the suspension bushings and brackets and they all look great. The clutch plates in the differential are probably on their way out, so that could cause it to make the sound when they slip.
Suspension / Brakes - 10/10 - Rides great with no vibrations. No slop or clunks in the suspension. New brake rotors (only non-oem part on the car, with cross drilled and slotted rotors) and pads up front, as well as a new front right caliper.
Wheels - 9/10 - Original M5 rims (Style 65) 18 x 8 Front and 18 x 9.5 Rear. Front tires are Michelin Pilot Super Sports 245/40/R18 (new in November 2015). Rear tires are Pirelli P6 all seasons 275/35/R18 (new in May 2016). The rims have the original Shadow Chrome, which has some spots where brake dust ate through the paint. They aren't peeling or chipping and still look good from 10 feet (check out the photos). The wheels are balanced perfectly right now with no vibrations.
What is it like to drive - BMW's slogan of Ultimate Driving Machine definitely applies here, with so much power and balanced handling to make the most of any situation. It makes me smile every time I drive it, and I turn around every time I get out of the car to look at it. With the six speed manual transmission, you can pick any gear and not have to worry about having enough torque. The car is very smooth and the suspension is tight. The limited slip differential gives excellent power delivery in a straight line or coming out of a corner. The E39 M5 is relatively simple in terms of a single sport mode (increases throttle response rate and makes steering less assisted) and a button that turns off traction control. Many consider the E39 M5 to be one of the last more analog cars since there aren't a bunch of computers trying to get in your way.
The variable valve timing kicks in hard at ~1700 rpm and pulls relentlessly all the way to 7, 000 rpm. You expect it to be at redline at 6k, but it still has another 1, 000 rpm to go. The engine is very smooth and produces an awesome exhaust note, even with the stock exhaust.
Fuel Mileage - About 18-20 mpg around town and 23-26 mpg highway. I've managed 28.3 mpg on my 100 mile commute before and 30 mpg on a 500 mile trip (single tankful).
There are many car reviews of the E39 M5 online describing this car.
