You're bidding on a Buick
Super Convertible; New Upholstery, Convertible Top, Clutch and Engine, rear and front end fresh-up! This particular Buick retains its original black paint from the doors back while
having new upholstery. This Buick has been written up in several
magazines and has even had a write up by noted automotive writer Tom Strongman.
The body and paint (from doors back) on this car are both original
from 1948. It is amazing to see a car that is this old still rocking the
original paint – and looking good while doing it. It is not showroom perfect –
the paint is 65 years old! Some areas show where the paint has rubbed thin, along with some scratches and rock chips, but overall it looks great with nice
patina! Most people will stare at you with astonishment when they realize this
is the original paint applied back in 1948! The chrome and stainless is all in
good condition for its age. There are minor imperfections such as
scratching but overall shows well. The newer black, Hartz
style, power convertible top is in excellent condition and it looks great on the
Buick. The Hydro-electric top and windows work perfectly (have a video I can send you if interested). Inside, the interior has been freshly reupholstered and compliments
the black. The door panels are in
comparable condition. The red carpet is also in great condition. When the
carpet was replaced there was an additional underlayment put down to reduce
heat from the car into the interior. The dashboard appears to be original and
is color matched to the exterior. It is dressed up with the original chrome
accents that look great. The underside of this car is very clean, you can tell it has been garaged for most of its life. It houses a set of original gauges that also look
great. There is also a SunPro temperature gauge mounted beneath the dashboard.
a clock and an AM radio. Under the hood, you’ll find the inline 8 cylinder
“Buick Fireball” engine, mated to the engine is a 3-speed “three on the tree”
manual transmission. The engine was rebuilt in the recent past and converted to
a 12 volt system for convenience. The front suspension was rebuilt by John
Hemmingway, an older Buick specialist out of Iowa. He also changed the rear
gears from the original 4. 56 to 3. 90 gears. This allows the car to run at
highway speeds and keep the RPMs lower. The car sits upon a newer set of 15”
Tru-Spoke wire wheels with Buick center caps wrapped in P235/75R15 white wall
radial tires that look great and even better – make this “Rainman” machine
cruise smoothly down the road! This is a very special and awesome 1948 Buick
Super Convertible. It could continue to be a classic driver or find a home in
just about any car collection. The VIN is 24875518. It is being sold on a clean and clear mileage exempt
Texas title. GET OUT AND DRIVE!
As with any older vehicle, I recommend you come see it or have inspected if you prefer before you buy. I cannot express how much attention this car gets and great it rides and drives. One of the best I have ever been in.
Good luck!
