Description:

1970 Buick GS455 Convertible One of only 1, 416! Power steering, power brakes, THM-400, console & buckets, 3.42 posi-trac rear end, convenience group and more!
Arguably the most popular year for Grand Sport enthusiasts! The 1970 model was the first year to offer true big block performance from Buick, and with it came some their best designs into the muscle car era! This included the 455ci V8 engine, Stage I engine upgrades, and the ever famous GSX appearance package! The Skylark was elevated to a new performance standard and Buicks were no longer just torquey boulevard cruisers but now formidable competition at stoplights.
We are very excited to offer this 1970 Buick GS455 Convertible! The car is finished in its factory correct shade of 75R – Fire Red with 188 – Black Vinyl Bucket Seat interior. Starting with the powerful, numbers matching 455ci V8 producing 350 horsepower and an incredible 510 lb ft of torque at only 2800 rpm, these cars created the most torque of any American production car to that date! Features and options on this car include a Turbo-Hydramatic 400 automatic transmission (original to the car), full length console with bucket seats, power steering, power brakes, AM/FM radio, stereo tape player with rear speaker, posi-trac rear end, Rallye Ride Control Package (rear stabilizer bar, front/rear firm tuned shocks, rear firm ride springs), custom front and rear seat belts, soft-ray tinted windshield (now replaced), door edge guards, carpet savers and handy mats, kleenex dispenser, passenger vanity mirror, convenience group 3 (trunk light and mirror map might), instrument gauges and rallye cluster, and Rallye steering wheel. The car rides on Super Sport wheels wrapped in P235/60R15 BF Goodrich Radial TA tires.
According to Buick Historical Services / Sloan Museum, this example with body number 046996 was first invoiced on 9/25/69 and built in November, before being delivered to The Parsons Buick in Plainville, CT with an invoice price of $3597.50. The original, numbers matching SR-coded 455ci V8 remains, as does the original 1970 Buick Rochester Quadrajet carburetor (7040240). Attached to the engine is the original 70 BA coded transmission mated to a correct 3.42 posi-traction 10-bolt rear end. Of note, even the distributor and original Harrison radiator wear their proper identification casts or stamps. This car was cosmetically restored some time ago and was meant to include paint, chrome, T3 headlamps, interior upholstery, convertible top, all suspension bushings, ball joints, tie-rod ends, sway bar links, shocks, brake components and correct semi-gloss finishes. Every aspect of the car has been made to appear as-new, with the only liberties taken being an upgraded Stage 1 air cleaner, badging, decals, and chrome valve covers. A healthy amount of literature is also included: 1970 Buicks brochure, Owner’s manual / consumer information booklet, previous Massachusetts title, magazine advertisement copies, wholesale car order form, Buick accessories bookets, Liberty Mutual accident booklet, New Vehicle Warranty booklet, 1970 Buick color charts and more!
Only 1, 416 of these GS455 convertibles were ever sold to the public in 1970 making them one of the hardest cars to find on the market today! Make no mistake, 1970 is the last year of performance-inspired street machines in the eyes of many collectors. With insurance and emission standards on the rise, production cars after 1971 just weren’t the same. The odometer shows 56, 906 miles, which are said to be original from one dealer family its whole life. With this list of options, superb color combination, beautiful restoration, and undeniable rarity accompanying this vehicle, you just can’t miss on the future investment potential if it’s parked in your own garage!
