1962 Buick Invicta convertible with Wildcat badging and a 425 nailhead!
Most collectors are aware that the Muscle Car era started in the early sixties. Muscle cars were mainly mid-sized cars with the motors from the larger cars in an attempt to create a ‘muscle car’. Buick went one step further with this philosophy and took their full size car and turned it into a muscle car called the Wildcat. The Wildcat used the larger V8 motors in most years and also included such things such as bucket seats and special trim that gave the Wildcat its distinctive look. Frankly the Wildcat series became a very limited production series that is now is highly sought after by collectors. The most rare of these cars would have the two 4-barrel engine, 4-speed transmission, bucket seats and air conditioning. Those four items that made a Wildcat the top of the line.
We have been told that the Invicta name was derived from a Latin word that signifies unconquerable, invincible and unbeatable. 1962 produced the most expensive Invicta. These cars are a full-sized automobile that were produced from 1959 to 1963 and are a wonderful combination of performance and comfort. In 1960, an Invicta trim package was offered, featuring bucket seats and a “consolette” in the convertible. 1962 was the debut of the Wildcat 2-door hardtop within the Invicta series and featured most of the interior trim. Other Wildcat features included special badging and exterior trim.
The car that you see before you in this auction is believed to have been born with a factory 4-speed transmission that a previous owner upgraded to a 5-speed transmission. This car has bucket seats and factory air conditioning and upgraded Cragar real spoke wheels and of course it is the best model of any series being a convertible. The car always turns heads with the beautiful red paint. Everybody loves the original pattern style redone interior.
We can only suggest that you take a hard look at this car because showing up at any car show you will be an instant success. The private seller tells us it is a lot of fun to be at a stoplight next to most muscle cars when the light turns green and watches the other car in the rear view mirror get smaller and smaller. Keep in mind that the Buick Nailhead engines, especially the 425s that this car has been upgraded with, are about as fast an engine as you could find in the early sixties. In addition to all of that this car makes a wonderful family tour car, great cross country and a lovely show car with plenty of get up and go and probably the fastest large production car during the 1960s. Keep in mind we are talking 425 cubic inches, two four-barrel carburetors and believed to be an original 4-speed transmission upgraded to a 5-speed transmission that really gives it all the best gear ratios at any particular speed when you want to step on the accelerator.
This car has been upgraded to give it a Wildcat ambiance resulting in a most sporty looking convertible. CHECK THIS OUT!!! The convertible for sale in this ad comes with upgraded Buick badging, upgraded 425 Nailhead V8 engine with 2 4-barrel carburetors and an upgraded Tremec 5-speed manual transmission, upgraded cluster gauge and FACTORY AIR CONDITIONING. A/C currently not working. The car features upgraded Cragar wheels, upgraded after market chrome trim gas door and upgraded MSD electronic ignition. If you love a convertible and appreciate the styling cues from the Wildcat this car deserves your undivided attention.
The private seller tells us that he purchased this car almost ten years ago and he believes that the car had been repainted in the original paint color and the interior had been restored with the original style pattern and owner believes it may be leather. The private seller tells us that the paint, interior and chrome are in very lovely condition. There is some minor chipping on the passenger door jam and is greatly enlarged in the photo. The top also looks great, as does the boot. Take a look at the photos of the underside and you can see that the underside looks very clean. There are dual exhaust and Smitty mufflers. The seller tells us that he is not aware of any rust on the car.
The seller tells us that odometer reads about 110, 000 miles and that the car starts, stops and runs as it should. The seller has taken the car on some 400 mile round trips and says that he loves the standard shift and it handles like a “baby carriage” and the ride is so smooth.
We asked the seller, “if you were given $1, 000.00 and you had to use it on the car or you would have to return the money” what would you do to the car. His reply was, “I would have to give the money back because there is nothing I would do to the car”. That is how he feels about the over all condition of this car. Disclosure – we are not saying that everybody would have his same opinion but that was the feelings of the seller at the time of listing the car.
The seller believes all the mechanicals to be working fine. He did mention that he believes that the Amp Meter not working.
This car may be one of the most exciting cars to appear on eBay in recent times. Again, it has all the desirable features of factory air conditioning, upgraded 425 c.i. Nailhead engine with two four barrels and a four-speed manual transmission that has been upgraded to a Tremec 5-speed manual transmission. YES, the factory air conditioning is highly significant! Keep in mind that back in the day that nobody ordered a convertible with factory air. It was not a matter of money it was considered inappropriate as you were expected to put the top down and the factory air wouldn’t do you much good. Today most people on a hot day they want the top up to keep the sun off of them and they can still feel cool. Note that the blower motor on the factory air is not working but the seller is not sure of the exact reason. Top all of this off with a very low reserve on the car and there is no reason why you shouldn’t be bidding on this fabulous car! BID TO WIN AND BE HAPPY THAT YOU DID!
