This is a 1948 Buick Roadmaster
Sedanette (Model 76S) with the optional Dynaflow automatic
transmission. I bought this car in Arizona five years ago with the
intent of restoring it as a very nice driver. It really shouldn't
take much to polish this gem, but unfortunately, I simply don't have
the time for it in my schedule so it needs to go to a caring home.
The car is complete. It starts, runs, drives and stops well. The last previous owner rebuilt the 320ci
engine and fitted a later Dynaflow dipstick tube which moved the
location from under the passenger floor to the engine compartment. The carburetor and water pump were rebuilt in 2013. The fuel/vacuum
pump was rebuilt in 2013 with a kit from Then & Now so it can run
today's fuel, and I installed a 6V electric pump to help in hot
starting conditions. The heat control valve was previously bypassed
and I have removed it pending refurbishing. The temperature gauge is
a temporary one, but I have a NOS unit that has not been installed. I installed new wheel cylinders, new brake shoes and a new master
cylinder in 2012. The windshield wiper motor works but needs to be
refurbished. The speedometer/odometer cable was snapped, thus those are inoperative.
The torque ball is leaking. I have a
kit from Fatsco which I have not installed yet, as well as axle seals
and other items related.
The car needs a new wiring harness
throughout and remains 6V. Horns, headlights, tail lights, brake
lights and instrument lights function, but other items (turn signals, clock, reverse lights, dome light, blower fan) have been
disconnected. The Sonomatic radio works. The starter is strong and
has new brushes, the generator has new brushes, new coil installed
and a tune-up completed in 2014.
The last previous owner is responsible
for the primer grey paint it currently wears, although the cowl tag
indicates that this car was originally two-tone green. At some
point, it was painted metallic grey and I assume that's when the
current interior was installed. It is not correct but functional. Windshields front and rear are in fair condition, some side windows
are cracked but all crank up and down fine.
Body is straight and has minimal rust
issues. There are no obvious holes/rot nor sponginess in any of the rockers, doglegs or floor/trunk that I have found, and the door bottoms are actually solid too. That's not to say there aren't pinholes, however. I'm unsure of what the previous owner did as far as body work but there are no patch panels installed anywhere. The seams are solid in the trunk and although I've not taken the seats out, I had removed the carpet to inspect the floors and found nothing concerning, even where the fill port access hole for the transmission is (passenger floor) or at the drivers location. The rear skirts are in great shape. Brightwork is all intact but some pieces need rework.
Comes with all the manuals and extra parts (some NOS) I have acquired. Also listed locally.
