Ever wanted to be the true master of all roads? Here’s your chance.
This exquisite 1996 Buick Roadmaster wagon is a well-kept, two-owner example. It is by no means perfect, but it is a supremely clean, reliable and usable example of the last of the full-sized, body-on-frame American automobiles. Equipped with an LT1 5.7-liter V8, tow package, and more style than you can shake a velvet-covered stick at, this Roadmonster will send the neighborhood into fits of jealous rage each time you arrive home.
It is being listed with no reserve. The market and the elder Gods will decide the sales price. Because it is being listed with no reserve, please do not request that the auction be ended early, unless your offer is so ludicrous as to force me into a situation where I have no choice. Here’s some info:
The Good:
129, XXX miles.
Tow package with Class 3 hitch and trailer brake controller
Nearly new tires (<2000 miles)
Nearly new rear brakes (<4000 miles)
All fluids and services constantly up to date during my ownership
Automatic a/c fully functional
All power seats fully functional
Recent ignition service (plugs, wires, ignition hardware, etc. If you’ve ever done plugs and wires on these you know that’s no small job. <5000 miles)
Interior in excellent shape except as noted in the bad section.
Keyless entry with one remote fob.
Rear air-levelers in working order.
The Bad:
Faux wood grain peeling from accent trim
Front seats show some wear. High-quality seat covers have been used the last couple years.
Steering wheel shows some wear. Has been covered with high quality wheelskin.
Rest of interior shows normal or well below normal wear for a vehicle of this age.
Rear window regulators act up from time to time
Some recurring rust in lower rear fenders, behind rear wheels. Common issue on these cars where road grit gets kicked up and hits the lower fenders. The previous owner was in the habit of just grinding down the rust, filling any pinholes, then coating the area with bedliner. Honestly, it’s a pretty good solution and looks practically factory, so I just kept doing it. So right now tire’s no “active” rust, just a few ripples and hole-fills covered by the bedliner. Looks surprisingly good for a plowback fix.
Throws an occasional 171 code (lean condition in cylinder bank 1) which was pretty much SOP on GM cars of this era. Shows no other symptoms of vacuum leak or fuel or ignition problem. A quick cleaning of the MAF sensor usually takes care of it for a while, or just drive it with the CEL on like most GM owners.
Good or bad depending on your perspective:
Factory radio has been removed in favor of a Parrot Asteroid media controller. Connect via USB or Bluetooth, also has hands-fee phone features via Bluetooth. Tons of other features that I never bothered with mostly because I just wanted a good place to plug in my iPod.
Previous owner put a security pin on the hitch receiver, and we never did find the key. So hitch will not come out of receiver unless you cut that security pin or get a locksmith to open it. Upside is no one will ever steal your hitch. Downside is you’ll whack your shins a few times before you remember the hitch is still there.
I cannot stress enough that despite the flaws mentioned above in the interest of full disclosure, this car is a 100% runner and driver. I would not hesitate to take it on a cross country trip tomorrow. Except as noted, condition is very good, and overall this is a very strong example of a very cool car. I used it to tow a small formula race car (about 1500lbs including trailer) and you really had no idea it was back there. Have towed larger stuff (up to and including Miatas on open trailers) with great success as well.
