Thanks for stopping by to take a look at our very cool and rare 1961 corvair rampside pickup. chevy's unique pickup, designed to have the easiest and lowest loading area of any popular vehicle. COWABUNGA DUDE !!!! this is a surf relic from the southern california beaches……...and is famed for its many surf safaris up and down the coast of california. This surf wagon was cruisin’ the coastline while the beach boys were constantly on the radio……...and a bench seat is what you wanted your ride to have for those beach fire pit parties with your girlfriend. As you can tell from the surfboard, this one is called the “Beach Bum”. Its really rare to see one of these cruising around anymore……...and even rarer to see one in good mechanical condition, with all the patina from parties, surf runs, fist fights and so cal beach air still in place……….tell tale signs of a better time, fun times, and a different lifestyle than we all seem to lead today.
This corvair has the stock air cooled 6 six cylinder powerplant, mated to the reliable chevy powerglide automatic transmission. This rampside has had the additional benefit of an attitude makeover, featuring prime aluminum wheels with wide tires, and lowered suspension, for a cool, mean attitude and ride height. This truck was formerly a show vehicle in san diego……….and then sat for a good while. Is it perfect ??. .. .. ..Hell NO………...is there any rust?. .. ...Hell Yes………...is it safe and solid to drive……..Yup…………..is it unique, ready for a car show and cool??. .. ...Damn striaght. Dual carbs were freshly rebuilt. Higher horsepower factory twin carb set up. These rampsides were popular because the sid ramps allowed an extremely low ramp, that made it easy to load or drive up equipment. Perfect for a fishing vehicle……….a day bbq cruiser……….a surf wagon………………...a landscaping work truck………….a .car show mind blower. The surf board mounted on the tailgate flips up or down easily. It is the perfect place to advertise your business, use as a theme billboard for your vehicle, or use as a beer table when hangin’ out inside the bed. My thought was to mount removeable umbrellas, throw a lazy boy in the back along with a cooler, a remote control, volleyball net, and cover the bed floor with sand for the ultimate personal moving beach. Possibilites are endless on how to use the bed area. It would be a stellar work truck that would attract nothing but attention……….or a piece of advertising for your business that you could move daily, and simply open and close the tailgate as desired for a rolling billboard. The rampside does have a transmission leak, but will be repaired if the vehicle is purchased on a buy it now basis. much more driveable and powerful than a vw bus / transporter / van.
