This is a 1997 Chevrolet Gladiator conversion 1500 van modified for accessibility. It has 53, 686 miles.
This is an idealvan for a couple or family who want to get out, see the country, and not be housebound by a wheelchair. I bought this van three years ago after my husband became wheelchair bound. We used it to travel throughout New England and the MidAtlantic. It was wonderful, reliable, and had plenty of room. The van includes high-end modifications that make it really useable. And given the cost of wheelchair vans and accessibility equipment, this is bargain. Here is what is included.
Bruno Turny Seat.
The van is a equipped with a fully automated leather Bruno Turny seat. Basically, the right middle seat is a captain chair that electrically swivels and drops down outside the van to allow easy access. Here is a video that shows roughly how this works (although it is a different model). here I believe these cost about $2500 and there is a substantial installation cost. (I think it costs around $5000 with installation but I haven't found anything online about that.)
Wheelchair Lift/Hoist.
The van also has the rear bench seat removed to allow for a fairly large wheelchair, or scooter in the back. (The removable third row seat and hardware are included in this sale.) There is a hoist (Equalizer 3) with three types of attachments to fit a variety of chairs/scooters. Here is a link to a picture showing how it works. here The price of these kinds of hoists have come down and they now cost @ $1500. Installation is also extra. here
Driver Controls
. Finally, the driver controls have been modified for someone without the use of legs. The hand control to the left of the steering wheel can accelerate or brake the van. I don't know what these cost to install. The van can be driven using the original controls as the driver modifications don't interfere with them at all. Or they can be removed.
This van made such a difference for us. While it is an older van, has the usual cosmetic issues (including clear coat failures on the roof, rear panel, and hood), and is sold as is, it has essential accessibility equipment and is affordable. I have been told that the air conditioning should be recharged. There is a air bag dash light. I have the repair records, including those from the prior owner. The tires are three years old. In the three years we have had this van, we drove it approximately 4000 miles. We replaced the tires, have had brake work done, installed a fuel filter, and installed a new battery. Maintainance records are available.
