You hear about barn finds. This is the real deal. Dad bought this car in 1974 in Missouri and drove it here to Minnesota. That was 42 years ago. He didn't license it until 1983. In 1983 he licensed it in Oregon, where Mom and Dad had their second home. But he never drove it to Oregon or anywhere else. The car has never left the farm since it was purchased and was stored as part of a car collection. So the title is an Oregon title. We start the engine every year. The VIN is YM27J63252759 and the odometer reads 24, 005. Dad never painted it, but before 1974, someone apparently did, or the chrome wouldn't be all over the place. Any body work was done long ago. He drove it here like this. And he had a good eye. Of all his cars, this one was next on his list to restore.
Last fall, October, 2015, we drove the car out of the shed, ran it for a couple of hours and washed a thick layer of dirt off the outside, and took some photos and a video. The interior still has 42 years of barn dust. We didn't even start to wipe down the leather or clean the interior. It's as is. We wouldn't have known where to stop with the interior project. So what you see is the way it is, the way it's been. If you want a completely restored car like this, get out your wallet. They're out there. If you want a really sweet car that requires you doing the work, this one's affordable. It's very solid in and out. But the car has no brakes. We think the power brake booster leaks brake fluid into the intake manifold. The electric windows don't seem to respond, but we didn't spend even a minute with them and we haven't tried to lower the top. We wanted to lower the top for photos, because the lines of this car with the top down are simply awesome. But it's been so many years, we decided against it. You'll have to use your imagination and you'll have to apply the elbow grease... Like I said, it needs work, but it's worth the effort. Someone will have a gem when this is finished. The trunk and hood close properly, even though in the photos we have them both slightly open. Also, there are some chrome and steel parts in the trunk. In October, 2015, without brakes, we carefully drove the car back in.
Then in May of 2016, while still in the quonset, we put the hubcaps on, ran the car for another hour, and took some more photos and a video. The 440 cubic inch, 350 horsepower engine still roars. We're not gonna give it away, but you don't find a 66 CONVERTIBLE that runs, and is in this good of shape for this kind of money every day. Local pick-up. Payment by Bank to Bank wire only. You pay for your bank, I'll pay for mine. Payment must be made within 3 days of the end of the auction. The Reserve Price and the Buy It Now Price are not the same. The Reserve Price is lower. But if you wanna grab it, Buy It Now.
Be sure to watch the video of this 1966 Chrysler Imperial below, to hear and see it running. It runs strong. It's the classic 2 door convertible. The convertible has such a much nicer look than the hardtop. Long and sleek. 350 horsepower, 440 cubic inch Wedgehead V8. The wheel base is 19 feet long, 6 feet 8 inches wide. According to the pros, 1966 was the last year of the classic 1957 to 1966 Chrysler beauties, known as the second generation Chryslers. It needs work, but this is a really solid start. Also, many more photos are included in the video:
If you have any problems playing the video, please contact me. I'll be glad to help you update your video player so you can watch and listen to this really classic barn find.
