If you are a collector who likes to go to car shows, but doesn’t want to see a dozen other similar models of the same car there, then the Citroen in this auction just may be for you. When the Citroen DS first came out, it was hailed as the most advanced car of its time. Articles continue to be published about how advanced the DS was and still is today. Just recently in The Wall Street Journal, Dan Neil's article appeared entitled, The Citroen DS19: Why It's the Ultimate Classic Car ( here Besides it mechanical and engineering innovation, the design of the Citroen DS19 has always stopped people in their tracks because of its fabulous flowing style.
MissChiTown is a marketing entity on eBay to market cars for private sellers. Normally we try to describe the attributes of the car for the perspective buyer, but in this particular case the private seller has sent us such a wonderful description, we are going to let the seller provide the details of this unique offering:
The initial letters “DS” of its name came from the French word “Déesse”, which means “goddess”, so that's what I call this lovely vehicle. I had always wanted one, as my older cousin in Holland owned one when I was a kid and I thought it was the most artistic, interesting car in the world. I had considered buying one from a few I had found throughout Europe, but each had problems. I finally found this one in Woodland Hills, CA. The owner had treated this 1965 DS Pallas with much care and love for many years. He had redone the interior upholstery in a buttery brown leather, installed a modern stereo system with CD, but otherwise the car was original and running great. I purchased the car in February, 2009 and had it shipped to New York.
The outside body color is a deep maroon that Citroen calls, “Wine”. The outside top is silver. It's a distinctive combination. This Goddess has a Hydraulic gear selector – mounted top right of steering column with unusual single spoke steering wheel, which is essentially a 4-gear shift without a clutch (very ahead of its time). It also has working its hydraulic system, which allows for moving up and down while idle or moving (again, very ahead of its time). The car still has its German license plates, which the previous owner said were there when he bought it. Also in the car when the earlier owner bought it, and still there, are blinds in the back window (which I've been told and verified was how De Gaulle's DS was set up when he was Prime Minister and being driven around in the nation's proudest model).
The Goddess is a wonderful ride. It fits 5 people very comfortably. The trunk is quite roomy. The hydraulic fluid container being filled regularly, as I've been advised, is critically important. A number of containers of the recommended type (LHM) can be included in the sale. There are two sets of the three keys -- one for the ignition, one for doors/trunk, and one for access to the gas tank. Three hubcaps remain, one has been lost. The left and right signals are not working, but I've been told the wires just need to be adjusted or replaced.
Currently the odometer reads 04179 kilometers. I believe that the odometer has turned over once at 99, 999 kilometers which is equal to about 62, 000 miles. When adding the two numbers together, the sum is approximately 65, 000 total miles on the car but I'm not in a position to guarantee actual mileage because I cannot know how often the odometer has turned over.
This Goddess is a lovely, elegant, old lady. If managed properly, will run for another 50 years.
This is a car that you can bid to win and know that you will seldom go to a car show and see another one like yours. To top that off, if you are going on a cruise, you and four of your friends can sit comfortably for long periods of time in this most unique car. When is the last time you’ve seen another one this nice!
