Description:

This is a 1973 Datsun 240z, VIN HLS30 168107. Underwater on other projects and need to part with a car I love.
A nice driver/survivor, been rolling restored over the past months including removal of dreaded '73 flat-top Hitachi carbs replaced with circa 1970 4-screw SUs restored by Z-Therapy. Also has Motosport aluminized exhaust w/ 3-2, dynomax bullet and resonator, new battery, tires, new radiator hoses, ignition components, restored Sprint wheels, new stainless brake lines, new front struts and tie-rod ends. Radiator has been replaced w/ 280z unit. Have roughly 4-5k of receipts.
Seat upholstery is original to the car w/ the driver's side getting new foam. There has been some repair to the driver's seat, as I wanted to retain originality, but it is very high quality work. The dash has 2 medium-sized cracks.
Valves and timing recently checked and set. Compression test showed about 175 +- 5lbs at each cylinder. Good oil pressure readings, temp guage never above mid-way, no leaks or drips, no noticeable smoking from exhaust or bay. Car starts easily and reliably and idles nicely.
While it looks decent from 10 feet, the paint is sketchy, with issues here and there. It is not a high-quality respray and I suspect the body had a history of some small repairs that might not be up to today's standard for a collector car. At the rear hatch you can see the original color (light green) where it was not picked up in the respray. I see small bubbling at the lower doors by the sils that will want to be addressed some day. The glass and rubber is generally in good shape and the chrome bumpers (stainless?) should be replaced. The floor pans seems solid but I suspect that if one were to dig deeply enough, you would find repairs there. The underside of the car seems quite clean without being gunked up w/ underspray. The chassis seems solid without evidence of previous accidents.
The best part of the car is that it hasn't been bastardized:I found it very very hard to find one so original and unmolested. Much of the car has been left alone so it has an 'honesty' to it. Much of the engine plumbing still has it's original factory sheathing, for instance. All the guages work (except the clock). Lights and switches all work. The headliner has one small dime sized issue, but is otherwise very good, as are the door panels. Aftermarket radio works Don't know if the rear defroster works -- did not test it. Car has the original jacks and owner's manual, but no tool kit.
Car drives down the road nicely w/ no rattles, engine makes very nice power and sounds great. Lots of brake pedal, lots of clutch and gearbox synchros feel fine as you run through the gears very easily. Steering is neutral w/ normal feel and input. I typically get in it and take it for 100 mile weekend drives without hesitation.
Were I to keep the car I would replace the bumpers w/ smaller Japanese Domestic Market versions (about $700), finish off rebushing the front suspension, do the rear and mustache bushings and struts and cap or restore the cash. Car will come w/ all the original carburetors, plumbing, cast-iron intakes, etc (if you want them. .)
I've done my best to describe this car accurately, but you may have different view of the world so INSPECT IT YOURSELF BEFORE YOU BUY IT. Your bid isn't an option to buy, it's a purchase. There is no warrantee, expressed or implied. Send a quick deposit and I'm happy to use paypal if we split the fee. Car is sold w/ bill of sale and clear NYS title. If I get my BIN price, I will include a set of original steel wheels (in crappy cosmetic shape but unused rubber) and a set of original hubcaps that can be restored (photo showing the one I did restore) along with some new badges and a set of mustache bushings.
