This is a one family owned car until I purchased it from the nephew of the original buyer. W.H. Melton bought this car new in August of 1972 from Leonard Warner, Inc. Imported Cars of Winston-Salem, NC. The Leonard Warner sticker though faded is still on the rear bumper. The history of this car is nothing but authentic and is backed up by testament and original paperwork passed on to me by the last registered owner and nephew of W.H. Melton. There is a story behind this 240Z as with all old cars. To cut it short, the car stayed garaged and under the ownership of Mr. Melton until 2015 when his nephew acquired it. It was just an 'everyday' car for Mr. Melton for the first 10 years. Then after a re-location to Florida, the 240 sat for weeks at a time being used only as a weekend car. In 1991, the 240 was rarely driven and was put in storage in July '91 due to a diagnosis of failed head gasket. There it sat for 24 years! Probably only because of Mr. Melton's death, the car was passed on to his dearest nephew. After acquiring the car, the nephew decided not to restore it but to sell it to a person who could see potential in it's rebuild. That person was me. I bought this 240Z this spring with 87, 800 miles and in not running condition. I finished an already started project of rebuilding the engine. The motor was bored 50mm over with new pistons, rings, bearings(std.), 3-angle valve job, new timing chain, gears, tensioners, fuel pump, water pump, oil pump, 3-angle valve job complete with milling of head .005, new Nissan oil filter & 5 quarts Castrol 20w/50 wt. oil added. The engine was painted with original Nissan blue/green paint. I have pictures and receipts to support every facet of the rebuild. I even bought and installed new upper & lower original style cloth braided radiator hoses & new original style wire clamps. The radiator was tested and proved to be fine. The gas tank was removed and boiled out and fuel hoses replaced as needed. All smog equipment including pump was cleaned and reused. The clutch was rebuilt at this time also with new master, new slave, new slave hose, new cutch disc, pressure plate, TO bearing, pilot bearing, re-surface flywheel .003. Transmission front & rear seals we're replaced and gear oil drained and filled with new Castrol 80/90 wt. Also the exhaust system was custom made from the head pipe to chrome exhaust tip. Now the car was running but needed complete brake job. New master cylinder, new rear wheel brake cylinders, rebuilt front calipers, new pads & shoes, new brake hoses, & machined rotors & drums. Four new Kumho radials we're mounted to original rims. New Castrol brake fluid installed and pressure bled. The car now runs and stops as new! The engine is very quiet-no squeaks, no clatter, no knocking etc. Original trans in perfect working/shifting order. Brakes exceptional! Now I turned to the interior. Interior was excellent from the original dash (perfect with no blems or cracks!). Even the original carpet & padding is still in great condition-driver side has one small worn spot. Red headliner and sun visors are perfect! The original seats showed wear mainly to the driver side. I ordered new reproduction covers and had them professionally installed. The original Dunlop spare tire/wheel is there including jack/tools etc. which we're never used. Even a never used rattle can of Nissan 901 silver paint was in glove box along with original owner's handbook, radio info pamphlets, warranty book & card etc. Everything works as it should on the car even the original dealer installed air-conditioning. The radio works on AM but needs new antenna to work on FM. I am including a good used working original antenna. This is an 100% accident free/original paint car. What is left to do; the car has rust in the lower doglegs. Patch panels included. There is no rust in the spare tire well or battery area. Front driver side fender is perfect. Front passenger side fender is near perfect but will need very little patch work (6X4 area), both doors & rockers are rust-free. Both frame rails are good. Driver floor needs patching or replacement(I would patch), passenger floor has small hole that would patch easily. After body work complete paint job is in order-the original paint is very faded/flat with no pigment left to buff-I tried. I like original paint cars and am torn about painting this one even though it needs it. I intended on finishing the car but have decided to let someone else make that decision. This car needs nothing else other than possibly re-chrome of original bumpers and replacement of shock/strut cartridges on all four corners. I have receipts of over $5000 for parts and machine work not including the price of the car and labor! I will not take a penny less than $8800 or I will keep the car and finish it correctly as it deserves. Please email or call me @ (502) 552-0220 for more info/pictures. Thanks for looking!
