1977 Datsun 280Z
48, 000 well documented
original miles. I have a notebook with
all the original receipts for service work, etc. that documents the history of
the car and the mileage. I even have pictures of the car when it was brought
home by the original owner in 1977. All
documentation will come with the car.
Color 411 Sun Yellow
L28 2.8L Engine , 5 speed
Decals
The decals are exact replicas of
the original ZZZap decals. I had considered putting on the options package so I
purchased a set of new decals for $425. The new set of decals are exact replicas of the original and to my
knowledge these decals are no longer available. I looked for months before I found the last set.
The ZZZap
Exact number of ZZZap cars is
unknown, but it is estimated that about 1, 000 were delivered to the US. It is important to note that some people told
me this was not a ZZZap car because it did not have the options package put on
in 1977. I contacted Nissan’s corporate office and it
was confirmed that the 1977 Sun Yellow, 5-speed L28 was marketed as the ZZZap, and with the options package (stripes, louvers, dual mirrors) it was marketed
as the “Z with more ZZZap”. In the car’s
documentation notebook there are original advertisements that also confirm
this. The paint is the original color of
411 Sun Yellow, and is documented properly on the front by the radiator ( as it
should be) to verify a ZZZap car. I’m
sure someone somewhere with differ with me on this, but I was given this
information by the source; Nissan
Corporate office.
Engine/Trans
Within the last 100 miles all 6
fuel injectors have been replaced and the engine was thoroughly tested and
given a clean bill of health. New plug
wires, fluids changed, even the charcoal filter has been changed. The engine runs strong, shifts with no
problems, the car starts immediately, no smoke, no pulling when driving. Everything on this engine is clean, maintained and does it job correctly! Car does not leak any fluids. I have no problem having this car verified by
a mechanic. I replaced some of the hose-type
clamps on the engine and I saved the original hose clamps. I had planned on
having them refurbished and had planned on then putting them back on, but I did
not get around to doing yet. The
original hose clamps will come with the car. It would complete the ‘original’
look to the engine to replace them, , and that is what I had planned on doing
since this is an unmodified car. This car is amazing. It will start with just a
touch of the key (I have a video) even after sitting for weeks. I have never
owned a car that runs so consistently as this one does (and I have owned A LOT
of cars!)
*It also
has a brand new Sears Gold Battery that was purchased about 2 months ago. I have the receipt in the book with all the
other receipts for the car.
Tires/Rims
The car has a set of new Uniroyal
Tiger Paw AWP tires. The Tiger Paw AWP tires are the better grade Tiger Paw
tires for a more comfortable ride and durability. Tirebuyer.com rates these tires with their
highest rating of 10 for comfort, and 9 for durability. The rims and decorative
hubcaps are the original ones that came with the car. Within the last month the
hubcaps have been restored to their original soft silver powder coating. On two
of the outside decorative rims there are a couple of small ‘curb rash’ marks.
Paint/Carpet
There are a couple of very small
paint dings that are not noticeable until you get down within a few inches of
the area. The carpet is the original
carpet and within the last month it has been re-dyed so it is a dark black. It was not stained or torn but there were a
few really small areas by the back window that were slightly sun damaged and
showed a small amount of discoloration where the luggage straps were laying on
the carpet. That is why I did the
carpet.
Interior
All original interior and it looks
like new. Dash is like new and does
not show any wear, and especially NO cracks or sun damage. 1977 Datsun 280z radio. Electric antennae works, all gauges work, small things such as back defroster, cigarette lighter, map light, etc.
work. The only thing that I know of that
does not work is the clock. All of the
rubber on the doors and windows is like new. It is a very ‘tight’ feeling car when you close the doors. All interior components like steering wheel, shifter knob, leather shifter cover, etc are original and are near perfect. The cigarette lighter and ashtray have never
been used. All of the glass is the
original glass and is not cracked or chipped. The front windshield does not
have any rock dings at all! I have had
so many people tell me how incredible the interior is in this car. They cannot
believe it has not been restored.
Body
This car has all of the original
parts and has not been ‘put together’ with parts from other cars. This car is pretty much like it was when it
came from the factory. All of the
documentation proves this.
No accident, no rust car. This car was not driven in rain, snow, or wet
conditions so it has a very clean undercarriage and no rust. I have a lift in
my garage and will put it up on the lift so you can see the underside.
Documentation
I have all of the paperwork from
delivery date until now, and I mean everything. The owner’s manual, service records, any
items purchased for the car, and even the original window sticker. Because this car has been cared for and only
driven as a pleasure car, each owner was meticulous about its care and
documentation. All of the documentation
will come with the car.
Misc.
The original tire, jack, flat tire
fix etc. are in the car. The original
Owner’s Manual and Service Manual are in the documentation. The mileage is well documented and this car
has a Title A registration showing that the car’s mileage of 48 thousand is the
original miles.
The car was named
Sammy by its former owners, and I have kept this name for the car. The car has a personality all its own. This
is a rare and well documented car and a piece of history for Datsun. I have
lots of pictures of this car including close-ups of interior, exterior, and
engine. If you are interested call or
text me at (520) 818-8425.
Please read this.
Thank you.
I attempted to
list this car a couple of months ago with a starting price, and a reserve. I learned a lot with that
listing and realized that listing it for a lower price with a reserve makes
people think I will sell this car cheap for some reason. My intent with the
starting price was to peak interest and have people who knew Datsuns look at
the car. It wasn’t a good idea ! This time I am listing the car for the price
I will accept with the option to bid. I
hope that makes sense, but if it does not, send me a ? or call me. I took
it off because I was bombarded with calls, emails, and text messages. I was
unable to handle the response. There
were a couple of people who continued to call after I took it off ebay, offer
money they did not have, and (to put it nicely) have me jump through hoops by
sending them videos and pictures and then would to try to offer a ridiculously
low price, or “I want the car but I can’t make a decision. Could you send me
more pictures” (which I did) only to have them continue to ask for more stuff
and keep contacting me again and again but never made a decision. So please do
not bid on the car if you don’t have the money. I would love to send as many pictures and videos (I have 6 or 7 on
youtube I will give you the link to ) to
anyone who is interested in the car, but I don’t want to send pictures, videos, emails, and text messages for weeks on end to someone who probably cannot buy it. I think some people just like to play on the
internet or dream of buying cars so they do this kind of thing. It is hard on the seller to provide endless
information to someone who just wants something to do with their spare
time!
I know I am
asking more for this car, and I know everyone says their car is ‘pristine’, but
this car is truly a unique and incredibly preserved car, and that is why I am
asking for this price. People who have seen this car are amazed. It has been a pleasure to own it and it will
be hard to sell it.
