1977 Datsun Z-Series

Datsun Z-Series (1977)
for sale

Price: US $6,500.00

Description:

Selling a 1977 Datsun 280Z, known in Japan as the Fairlady Z. Original engine with only 84, 800 original miles (verifiable via title chain). 5-Speed manual transmission (rare in these cars, not sure if the car was originally configured with a 5-speed as Nissan/Datsun records are poor for these years). Blow your mind Rockford Fosgate/Kenwood audio system. Unlike most 280zs everything works..cold A/C, power antenna, vents, lighting, even the light in the engine compartment..it all works. This car is very reliable and I have used it as a daily driver for the past 2 years. I have done road trips in this car without issue. I purchased this car out of Arizona which is why it has survived 38 years with very little rust. I believe I am the third owner. Clean title in hand.
Goods:
All original except audio system and wheels (easy to return to stock if desired)
L28 I6 engine is fuel efficient (18 city/23 hwy observed)
Cold A/C (31 degrees at the vent)
New Rockford Fosgate/Kenwood audio system with Pandora, bluetooth, USB, Sirius. Rockford Fosgate 400w 4-ch amp, 12 Rockford Fosgate P3 sub woofer
New Michelin 60K mile tires and XXR wheels. Tires have ~3000 miles rear, ~7000 miles front
New Redline trans fluid, new Redline differential fluid, brakes and clutch recently flushed
Excellent oil pressure at idle (25psi) and with RPM (75psi), compression equal across cylinders and on par with service manual specs, coolant temp steady in center of gauge
Interior is the nicest I have seen in a 280Z, door panel are not cut up for speakers, original seat covers front and back, custom Z floor mats
New fan clutch, new battery, new heat/A/C vacuum lines
Original spare tire, original inflation canister, original intake, and owners manual included
Comes with (not installed) new rear carpet (original was nice so I left it when I changed the carpet in the rest of the car) and new brake pads.
Unibody frame reinforcements installed by professional welder (needed if a high horsepower motor is to be installed, stiffens chassis)
Bads:
Leaks 2-3 drops of oil each night, but does not leak enough to need additional oil between oil changes
Starting to see some paint bubbling forward of the rear wheels on the lower rocker panel (see photos) no other rust as far as I can tell
Clock doesn't work
1 crack in drivers seat and an old vinyl seat repair next to it
Speedometer is off a bit and I believe its due to to the larger than stock wheels/tires
Repainted in 1990 and the paint is starting to show its age
Dashpad over original dash
Drivers door mirror socket is starting to get loose.
Only selling because of military move overseas. My other car is a Detomaso Pantera (not selling) and I get far more thumbs up and comments in the 280Z than my Pantera. Everyone has a story about their father who had a 280Z, or that they always wanted one in High School, etc. This car certainly gets noticed and stimulates lots of conversations.
Values of Japanese cars are rising within the collector car world. Hagerty values a condition 2 car at $11, 600 and Sports Car Market values it at $10, 000. A condition 1 car (as it left the factory) is valued at ~$17, 000. Recently a 240Z sold at auction for over 60k. These cars may not be far behind and this car needs very little work compared to most of this age. Let me know if you have any questions or need additional photos. I'm willing to work with a vehicle shipping company of your choice if you would like to have it shipped after payment is received.
