1976 datsun 280z..
I have owned this car for 4 years. When I bought this car it had sat in a storage unit since 92. It had minimal rust in normal areas... bottom of both fenders, passenger floor pan, and end of passenger frame rail and thats it...
I stripped it to bare metal and welded new metal in where rust was present. I spent many hours on body work, yes it has filler to remove dents but no major damage, then I took it to a trusted paint shop. He spent 8 months on it and it turned out great. No original paint is remaining on the car.. I'm very picky and I have very little to complain about... basically I tried to make this car look as if its a 240z
Engine: 1983 L28et
I bought an 83 280zxt with low mileage (around 90, 000) that had sat for many years and was rusted. The head needed valve seals so I bought another p90a that was rebuilt (off this site) and installed it with arp head studs, new oem timing set, new oem oil pump. 240sx throttle body.. Other than that the long block is stock.
I spent many hours cleaning up the engine before install... cleaned up the intake manifold extensively, sandblasted as many parts as possible and powder coated... all parts, seals, gaskets were replaced with oem stuff.
Engine bay: the engine bay was sand blasted to bare metal and painted with the rest of the car. I stripped the chassis harness down as well as the engine harness and ran them nice and clean... the chassis harness is one solid loom along the passenger frame rail.. I removed the factory fusable links and added a modern style fuse box from a 92 nissan sentra and wired the fan relay into the fuse box. I converted over to a throttle cable and got rid of all factory linkages on firewall as well as intake manifold. All intercooler piping is tig welded and powder coated. optima battery with jl audio posts and 0 gauge wires ran to positive splitter. golden eagle vacuum block with all vacuum lines tucked nicely..
Turbo: precision 6262 journal bearing, greddy bov, jet coated exhaust manifold...
Transmission: stock borg warner T-5
Clutch: jim wolf technology street disk (exedy)
Engine management: jim wolf technology 450 hp kit... 89 300zx ecu, 93 ford cobra maf, 450cc injectors... I took the stock 83 zxt engine harness completely apart and wire tucked it for a clean fit.
Walbro 255 fuel pump, 3/8 push lock feed and return lines from stock 240z tank that I put a sump on. All fuel lines are connected with a-n fittings.
Brakes: toyota 4x4 front calipers, 86 maxima rear disc conversion, all stainless lines... 76 280z 2 plus 2 bigger brake booster, stock master cylinder.
Rear end: 1988 300zxt ss viscous lsd with cv axle conversion.. I believe its a 3.7 gear ratio... with solid mount (noisy cause mount) was not before I installed new solid mount.. has 88, 000 miles on rear end
Wheels: drag dr20... brand new kumho ecsta 225/50/16's all around.. has wheel adapters from msa to fit honda lug with a plus 40 offset.
Suspension: Tokiko blues with eibach 1 inch lowering springs.. ball joints, tie rod ends were replaced... full energy suspension polyurithane bushings were installed.. has the bump steer spacers from msa
Exhaust: 3 inch mandrel bent front to back with magnaflow muffler ( low hum, not annoying)
Exterior: 240z bumpers, 240z turn signals ( front and rear) all chrome was powder coated, glass head lights with replaceable bulbs.. original key with matching door locks but locks are powder coated shut (can be cleaned out to work again) brand new windshield.. all other glass is original nissan and in good shape
Interior: reconditioned 240z steering wheel, auto meter gauges... speedo, tach, oil, fuel, boost, water, and an aem wideband (wideband is in stock radio location, no cutting of console to mount).. all silver face ultra light... brand new oem not cracked or cut center console... 240z seats in fair condition with a wear mark on driver bolster.. new carpet.. clean headliner.. cracked dash with half cap.. dyna mat under all carpet and panels...all new weather stripping kit was installed..
The car is running on 12 psi boost, it can be turned up much more but I like it where its at and its very drivable and reliable (roughly 300 hp)
currently the fuel gauge is not reading fuel level and is most likely due to bad sender so I have just been adding 5 gallons of gas every 100 miles... the dome light inside is new oem and is installed but not hooked up.. the map light is not hooked up as well due to it will blow a fuse when it is... the brakes make a rattle sound due to not having anti rattle clips in them but does not affect braking..
overall this car is very nice and reliable and I would be comfortable driving it anywhere.. every time I drive it I get thumbs up, people stopping to take pictures, smiles, waves, stories of their old z etc. .
