Up for sale is a rare piece of history. A 10 year anniversary edition Datsun 280 ZX.Following her older siblings legacy of being hailed Motor Trends import car of the year in 1979, this fairlady was born in February of 1980 with big shoes to fill. Celebrating 10 years of Z car amazingness, this beauty was forged as one of only 3000(numbered 1778) in the bowels of the Nissan Shitai plant in Hiratsuka, Kanagawa Prefecture, Japan. With the hopes of a better life, riding along side some of her sisters, she was given a first class ride on massive diesel eating cargo ship sailing across the Pacific Ocean. She disembarked from her ocean cruise in Southern California to be greeted by sun, fun, Palm trees, and an amazing opportunity to flourish in a new country. After having years of fun and enjoying the California lifestyle, she faded into a less glamorous lifestyle, and at some point, she found herself being stripped of her gold and left feeling blue. The black and gold edition paint was sanded down and she was painted blue with black stripes up the hood. Fast forward to last year, a Z lover from New Jersey found her and wanted to unleash the true spirt of the Z that had laid dormant within her. Bringing her to the beautiful garden state, she shared a large garage with a few first generation Zs and started being pampered again. Finding her way to me, she has been tended to and is getting quite a few of her needs taken care of. Now she's ready to go to someone to continue helping her on her way to her destiny. Her gold spirit is just waiting to come back out.
All this car needs is someone with a personality fitting of such a great machine; that dares to be different, likes to stand out in a crowd, and is sophisticated yet has a wild side. This lovely fairlady can carry you and a date out for an elegant night, just the two of you enjoying the twinkling stars through the gently tinted glass of the T-tops, as you glide in comfort on your way to your favorite restaurant, where the valet should tip You for the opportunity to park such an incredible work of art!If a date night is not on the agenda, pop out the T-tops and let the wind roar through your hair as you tear up the streets and show those Honda owners what a real import is.
Included with her is the origional anniversary edition owners manual. <- That in itself is a rare find!
I've had her for about two months. She has not been driven any long distances that I know of in at least a year. Every time I drive her, she runs fine, never overheats, all fluids look good, oil pressure is great. I don't take her fast or far because I do not have her registered.As stated in the vehicle condition section, dashboard has some cracks in it. The leather on the driver seat is in bad shape. The passenger seat isn't as bad, both seats need to be reupholstered. All the interior panels are there, some are sun faded and may be slightly warped.When I got her, she had several electrical issues, some of them stemmed from an improperly installed alarm system. The alarm has been removed and wiring has been repaired. I have removed several switches and cleaned them.Between removing the alarm and cleaning switches and contacts, I have revived the hazard flashers, turn signals, parking lights, power mirrors, the warning dinger, and some of the interior lights.None of the above worked when I first got her.She is equipped with cruise control but I haven't had an opportunity to try it out.Her body is in really good shape, very little rust. A small rust spot at the base of the windshield and surface rust on the undercarriage. There is a small dent on the passenger side door.The doors open and close smoothly, the rear hatch opens from the release inside the car. The spring hold device(that thing that holds the door either halfway open or all the way open) on the driver door is broken. The lift supports for the rear hatch need to be replaced. The rear windshield wiper arm is not on the car and the motor doesn't run when the switch is turned on.I have removed the door panels and have adjusted and lubicated the power windows. I plan on cleaning and reinstalling the panels before the weekend is over(by Aug 30th). I will have pictures when I am done.She currently has the spare on the back left because that tire is no good, I may be getting new tires, I will post if I do.I have been tinkering with her and may continue to tinker.
