Datsun Z-Series (1976)

Price: US $2,000.00

Description:

1976 Datsun 280z. This is a fantastic winter restoration project, and while it would be easy to get her running and driving, understand that the car needs love by someone who is (hopefully) familiar with these wonderful machines. The 1976 model was the first fuel-injected year, and still maintains the sports car vibe before they became sissified with creature comforts. If you don't know, these cars are unibody and strong, making them great track cars and superlative around town.
Features:
Rebuilt motor with N42 head. Ran very strong when parked.
R180 differential with standard 1:54 gearing
4-speed manual
I rescued this project and two others from a gentlemen who had great intentions, but parked it (covered) 12 years ago -- yes, 12 years ago -- and never touched it. It was running great at that time, so in terms of drive train it would take a battery and fuel system flush to drive the car again. The pictures tell the story, and I made every effort to show where the car has rust and where it doesn't. The rust is in the typical places, but the great news is that it isn't in the deck frame or rear deck lid. The rails are rusty (sorry I don't have a picture) but they are replaceable and inexpensive ($122) because it is so common.
The car is unusual in that the seats are in great shape, as are the doors and dash -- almost unheard of.
The car includes mountains of new parts because the guy bought and stored them. It also includes fiberglass skirts (never been painted or mounted), and front and rear body kit (shown in pics). The wheels are not stock but are period correct and look awesome. The tires were new 12 years ago, but 2 of them should be replaced as they sat flat. This car will require a lot more elbow grease than money, as all the parts are there, including a bunch of replacement parts and extra parts.
Included but not shown is a second driver's side door, although the one that is on it would require very little body work to use it. So free extra door. Also includes but not shown, two extra windows and regulators. Again, the ones in it now work fine, but you get the extras with it.
All told, you can spend $5000 on a driver, and still have to buy a ton of parts and do all the work to make it right, or buy an honest-to-goodness project with a huge head start in parts and goodies. There is a huge community of collectors and lots of support for these cars. In fact, almost all of the parts are still available at AutoZone and Carquest! When you're finished you'll have an appreciating collectible worth between $10, 000 and $20, 000 (realistically, but some guys ask crazy prices), and can call it your own.
I cannot take additional pictures, because I stored the car 300 miles away.
As far as shipping goes, I can possibly deliver the car for 75 cents/mile, but contact me before bidding if that's what you want to do. Because the car is 300 miles from me, I won't go get it and deliver it 20 miles from where it's stored. However, if you live 1000 miles from me, I can make it work for both of us.
