For sale is a rust free 1971 Datsun 240z with numbers matching engine and transmission. This is a one owner car that has spent its entire life in southern California.You can drive it as-is, or it would make an excellent driving restoration project. The car drives nice, brakes good and shifts fine. All lights and signals work as they should. The clock is not functional, nor is the amp gauge. The body is straight with nice panel gaps. There are some dings throughout the body as expected for an unrestored car. The glass is original and looks great. All trim looks good and the bumpers are very nice. The interior presents well, but could use some sprucing up. Some carpet for the rear hatch area and a good cleaning would do the trick.The door cards are very nice as is the center console. The heater works, but the AC is not working, but comes fully in tact.
To make this a top notch driver I would suggest the following:*New rear differential mount (there is a slight thunk when applying and letting off the gas)*New shifter bushings (the shift lever does have some play)*New steering bushings(there's a little dead zone on center and this would help clear it up)*I would update to electronic ignition and set the timing*Replace the exhaust. Something a little more beefy would add to the experience in my opinion.
The car was painted 4 years ago. There is no bubbling, cracking or peeling. It is however a cheap job and I would classify it as driver quality. When the car was painted, areas underneath got some paint as well. This will take some time with some paint remover or you could respray with some undercoat I suppose. I took a magnet throughout the entire car and its absolutely solid throughout. Underneath is solid. I can't find any evidence of any rust anywhere. All in all, this is a nice car that could be made great with a little time and small investment. Drive it and fix it up slowly. I have a very realistic reserve set.
