This 1948 Chrysler Desoto Fluid drive was a step above the Chrysler line of automobiles and quite distinct in it's day. This is a true barn find that was parked for a number of years before I found it and parked inside. This car has weather the years very well, except the interior fabric on seats and door panels, which is in poor condition and will need a complete as will the head liner, the body is very solid and has not had any serious body work. Looking at the car from my perspective, I feel like I would rather have old paint than fresh as it is easier to see condition of body or where there may be rust or damage. The driver's side windshield glass is cracked, but is straight safety glass and not expensive to replace, some discolour on bottom of vent window glass as well. The floors are for the most part very solid, save the small patch on passenger side as seen in picture. Gas tank was cleaned and new tires, new battery were installed. I primed the carb and the car turned over a few times and caught running on it's own from fuel in the tank and ran very smoothly with no unwanted noises. The engine under side is relatively clean with no leaks or wet spots The exhaust has holes in the pipe from the exhaust manifold to muffler so some what noisy. The clutch was up on the car and with some pumping the brake peddle came up as well, but brakes will need to be bled etc. I shifted through the 4 gears and they engaged as they should and pulled in auto as well without the clutch. The owner said the car was used quite often before it was parked and had no problems with the running of the car. the chrome and stainless are in good to fair condition with very little pitting. The bumpers are original and say Desoto and are very straight but dull and will need polishing or refinished depending on how far you want to go with the car. The engine compartment, though dirty is not rusty or banged up. All hoes, belts radiator and charging system is working. The lights and signals work, the heater fan and wipers, but radio does not. I see from looking under the hood the original colour was a wine colour, so repainted at some time in it's life. The car looks very decent as is, you will find the car better than I have described as I am told I am to cridical . The owner could not remember where the keys were so I had keys cut for the ignition, but do not have keys for the trunk. I don't know what is in the trunk, but trunk looks solid from underneath. Car is completely stock and unmolested and not a difficult resto. You as the market place can decide the value, as for me I do not work on them any more, but love to find them. Good ones are getting harder and harder to find and for me it is like a rescue. Thank you for looking and any questions, please feel free to contact me and I will respond promptly. THIS IS AN UNRESERVED AUCTION I reserve the right to sell the car early if I receive a good offer I will assit in the shipping. but no quotes
