Price: US $5,200.00
1948 Desoto 2dr Sedan, one of only about 12, 000 made over the 46/47/48 production run, and seldom seen.
Car is in very good condition for it's age, original black patina paint, and virtually rust free! Couple spots inside the cabin, near the body mounts, and the spare tire wheel well, and misc small pin holes in trunk and drivers floor.
Has rebuilt/replacement 25 218Cu in flat head motor and dry clutch 3spd transmission (No fluid drive)
Original Oil bath air cleaner has been modified to run a modern paper filter
Modern spin on oil filter set-up installed. (Original set-up to go with car)
New aluminum radiator
4 x Brand new 7.60 x 15 Coker Classic 3 wide whites, with new inner tubes
OEM Rims blasted and repainted
Have bare OEM 15 steel rim as a spare.
Complete Brake system serviced and/or rebuilt where required.
Column shift, and Clutch linkage torn apart, cleaned, painted, lubed, adjusted and re-installed
New gas tank and sending unit
All glass is in place, RH side vent window is cracked in half with top part missing, and most other flat glass is damaged in some way. I have all new flat glass for entire car ((clear) not installed yet))
New interior firewall insulation added.
Re-keyed locks. Ignition and doors match, truck lock with it's own key.
Installed all NOS pedals (Gas, brake and clutch)
Nice condition 1950 Desoto - Door and window cranks
I have installed a radio delete and clock delete plates, but have the original units to go with car.
Dash has been removed, stripped and repainted in Satin black. All dash chrome, trim and knobs were either cleaned, polished or replaced with better pieces. (no glove box liner)
Converted to 12V negative ground and Running all mopar electronic ignition, alternator and charging system, including a custom slant six/flat head 6 electronic ignition distributor I built.
Modern 12V wiring system by EZ wiring, all new wires and connections, everything works! I bought the wiring system with all the potential circuits needed for a decked out hotrod...AC, Power windows, electric fuel pump etc. I tried not to cut the wiring to short, and all the circuits I did not need, or use, have been left at their original lengths, and taped up and tucked away for future upgrades. Oil, gas, volts and temp gauges have been switched to modern units in original dash cluster. Dash cluster was not cut up, only the gauges were modified. They look good, and all work fine.
Car Also comes with,
Very nice condition chrome flying woman hood ornament
OEM wiper arms, but no blades
NOS rocker moldings,
NOS front turn signal chrome bezels
NOS rear fender stainless molding. (Can't recall if it was LH or RH side)
Used Spitfire L6 Head can go with car if wanted
Front shock re-location brackets from late 40's Dodge truck
Burgundy/red carpet kit
Nice (Older re-chromed) chrome bezels for rear tail lights and 3rd brake light
I have rectangular clear glass lenses and chrome bezels from a VW van for back up lights, if the buyer wants them...not installed yet.
Nice replacement front bumperettes, straight with nice original chrome.
Front Visor, used, no side brackets (not a Fulton)
Drivers side Mopar spot light.
And Lots of misc parts, new and used, that will go with car if wanted.
Runs good, drives fine around the block, stops well.
I do not believe the car is road worthy, and should be transported
Car still needs work, it's a project so that should be expected!
But I believe that the hardest parts are done, here are a few things that still need work.
Needs interior upholstery, was very moldy and dry rotted, so most was torn out. Seat frames and springs in very nice condition.
Needs new exhaust, I used leftovers from the garage to piece together a basic system.
Needs a new speedo cable, and a longer E-brake cable. The E-brake system works fine with a small chain I added to the end of the shorter cable.
Think it needs new inner and outer tie rods, and possibly other drive train and suspension related parts, and bushings.
Passenger side Interior heater not hooked up to cooling system, but pressure tested core and was OK. Was dis-assembled, cleaned, lubed and re-installed.
Originally a dual heater system...LH side heater was removed to make room for the new fuse panel and wiring system.
I brought the car up from southern California, and has been registered in BC Canada. Very easy for car to move back across the Canada/USA border. Had never planned on selling it, but life sometimes dictates otherwise. .;)
I have tried to list the car accurately, but Please contact me with any questions before bidding.
