1955 DeSoto Firedome 30, 300 mile Survivor. VIN 55220665 Super Low Reserve Price
This is a 1 in a million survivor. You can look for 20 years before you find one
this rare.
I purchased this DeSoto 3 years ago from an elderly
gentleman in Montana as a 26, 000 mile 3 owner, one family survivor that spent
her entire life in Montana. She has been
garage kept all her life and it shows. Unfortunately the garage she was kept in the last 20 years had a patio
door that cast light on the hood and fender tops resulting in fading to what is
otherwise a shiny factory original green lacquer paint.
When I bought her I installed 4 new Coker Radials and a new
radial spare. Had the brakes refurbished
with new brake line connectors, wheel cylinders, shoes, and and had the
original drums refinished. I also had the original radiator re cored and
changed the hoses which were all original. When I recently photographed the
under carriage I did not like the look of the front shocks so I replaced them
this week with new ones from Kanter.
She bears her original 291 cubic inch Hemi engine, Automatic
transmission, Power Steering, and Power brakes. There is one small spot of rust half the size of a dime on the right
fender (photo with dime for comparison). Otherwise she is rust free. The
heater core was bypassed when I got her and I do have a replacement heater core
for the new owner if they wish to have heat in the winter. The right side of the windshield has 2
scratches from the wiper blade. Small leaks from oil and trans pan gaskets.
Now: What works like
new: headlights (high and low beam) turn
signals, reverse lights, brake lights, dash lights, glovebox light, horn, parking brake, radio(blows the fuse frequently), windshield wipers, all vents, amp gauge, fuel gauge, oil pressure gauge, water temperature gauge.
I have driven her over 4, 000 miles in the past 3 years. In late August I drove her to/from Kansas
City in a weekend. This was 8 hours each
way on the highway. At 70 miles per
hour she achieved 15 miles per gallon of gasoline. You should not be afraid to fly in and drive
her home to anywhere in the continental United States. I have attached a 7
minute video of the Desoto on the highway cruising at 85 miles per hour.
