1955 DESOTO FIREDOME SPORTSMAN 2DR HARDTOP
Complete unrestored 1955 Desoto Firedome Sportsman with 291 cid 185 hp 2bbl Hemi engine. Car apparently spent its life in Washington State-have some title history. Paint appears to be mostly original with some body work done on the driver’s side rocker panel and top of passenger fender. Paint is faded.
See photos for rust. Rust in front and rear driver’s side rocker panel and rear wheel opening. Less rocker rust on passenger side. Front floors rusty and passenger body mount rusty likely from cowl vent leak. Rear floor and trunk do not have any rust through. Car was undercoated so that helps with the rust prevention. Hubcaps are original but have some dings and surface rust. No spare tire.
Glass good except passenger door glass which has a crack. All chrome and stainless trim still on car. Interior appears to have the original seat covers. Driver side upholstery is worn through to the foam on the seat bottom part. All interior pieces appear to be present except for carpet.
Engine starts and runs smooth with a rebuilt carb that smokes some when first started. Lifters are quiet after a few seconds running. Transmission shifts properly in and out of drive and reverse. There is an intermittent transmission leak. Brakes work but soft, emergency brake holds as there is no “Park” on these transmissions. Currently using a starter button as starter solenoid may need replaced. Power steering does not work. Lights work. Gauges work except for temp-can't locate sending wire. Have not driven the car any distance except for on and off trailers so plan to trailer it home.
Difficult to find complete De Soto’s anymore. Too many projects ahead of this one and need the room. Reasonable reserve. No trades except for a 63 Split Window….. Guess that takes care of taking any trades.
