OK - up for sale here is our 1998 Dodge Dakota RT Extended Cab one of (415) made that year in red. A sweet survivor RT with 5.9 360 Magnum V8 engine, 3.92 posi rear end, heat, and ice cold AC. This is a low reserve auction, so bid to win.
When we got it - it had some issues - here's what we did:
1. It was throwing a code for no lock up. So we pulled the transmission back and removed and replaced the torque converter with a brand new torque converter. We also adjusted the transmission bands and replaced the fluid and filter. Flushed transmission cooler and cleared check valve. If you are familiar with the 46RE then you know what we're talking about. Runs and shift's like a champ, goes in and out of lock up perfectly. No codes.
2. Removed the intake manifold and replaced the plenum gasket. At that time we sent the intake out to a machine shop and had the center divider removed and the runners cut down. This made a considerable performance improvement to the truck and it seems to run better with the ported intake. Again Dodge guys will know we're talking about.
3. Distributor was replaced with new unit when intake was off.
4. Fresh oil, lube, and filter.
5. The clear was peeling off it. We sanded it down and rolled it Rust O Leum Red which is a little brighter than the factory red. Don't laugh, it's a thing. Google it. It's really a thing. Anyway - the truck looks great from 10 feet. Someone who knows how to wet sand and buff could probably make it look perfect. Or repaint it. We think it looks pretty good. And then put new graphics on it in factory location.
6. Brand new set of Bridgestone tires with 80K mile tread wear warranty on them. ($900 6 months ago) Grips well.
7. Tire Kingdom front end alignment done in last 6 months when new tires went on. Tracks straight.
8. Cat was rattling in her can. She's gone now. Runs even better without it. We spaced rear O2 sensors - no codes.
9. Brand new Monroe front shocks.
10. New map sensor and connection. Runs strong.
It needs a few very minor things to be complete -
1. Center console armrest is missing. We have a black insert in there that works fine. The hinge is even there. The armrest can be found in any yard or Craigs List for $25. We just never got around to it.
2. Glove box latch needs repair or replaced. Again $25 on Ebay.
3. CD and tape work, but radio not working. I suspect it's that the antenna is not connected somehow. But who knows. We used an adapter to plug our phone into the unit and just run music from our phone. It works fine like that.
4.Passenger door lock actuator works but I believe the arms needs adjusting in the door. Not sure how to do it. You can hear it pop with fob, so we know actuator works - it's just out of adjustment which is apparently fairly common.
It's got the associated nicks and minor scuffs for a truck this age. The interior is clean with no rips or tears in it. Also has floor mats. I suspect that the mileage on this truck was highway miles because it runs exceptionally good for it's age. I had a hemi before this one, and this little Dak will surprise a hemi. It's a bit of a sleeper. It's got the factory alarm, also back and side windows open which is cool for cruising around. (Back and side's are tinted too, door windows are not.) Truck is sold as is where is - with no warranty expressed or implied. We used it primarily to run errands for my ad shop so it got very little use with us. I have tried to describe the truck the best I can. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask. Prospective buyers are encouraged to come and inspect the truck prior to biding.
