I bought this vehicle for one purpose. I bought it to take a trailer from my home in Shelton, WA and take it to Minneapolis, MN to bring back a playhouse. It was 4, 000 lbs and the trailer was 2, 000 lbs so my 1/2 ton truck would not do it. It was the right vehicle for the job. It got 20 mpg while pulling an empty 2000 lb. utility trailer, I thought that was great. The truck is in great condition for it's age. I am convinced the mileage is correct. I bought it from the University of Idaho in Moscow, ID. They got it for a test vehicle to test biofuel. It's first 100, 000 was on biofuel exclusively. At the end of the test the took the engine apart and sent the parts to Cummins for inspection. They replaced the parts with new Cummins Parts and had the head done by a local machine shop. It runs great and is very stable, no wandering or any looseness in the steering or anywhere else. I am enclosing the listing information posted by the school and they are extremely honest in their information. The batteries have beed replaced. The air conditioning needs to be recharged. The cruise control works well. Great clutch and the transmission has the 1st gear like the old days where 1st is very low. I think you could regularly start in 2nd without a load but I started in 1st so there would be no excess wear. You will like this one.

This was delivered to us with dead batteries so UI Surplus has sent it to the Motor Pool to have the batteries replaced. The Motor Pool will winterize the fuel as well (in case we have some cold weather.)
We requested some additional information and were given this response: we ran it for 100, 000 miles strictly on 100% biodiesel. The engine was dissembles for inspection by a Cummins engineer. The injection pump was sent to Bosh for inspection. It was then cleaned, reassembled and calibrated. The engine was reassembled with new rings, bearings, camshaft and lifters. The head was reconditioned by a local machine shop.

Answer for part b, This vehicle is currently over at the Motorpool getting a set of batteries (takes two and came with two dead batteries) put into it and some fuel treatment (in case it gets cold out) and seems to be driveable. It was driven into our lot. I have heard it run and we are installing batteries so customers will be able to hear it as well.

two questions..1.has it had an accident on the front..reason is the grille looks new and the paint has not peeled on the front like the rest of the truck kinda indicating not factory.

Can the typical service duty for this truck for the last 22 be described?
Can you tell if the rear differential has 4:10 gears, or other. .?

I do not know about the differential. I do not know much about its use other than it was used by a department which was developing biodiesel. Vehicles that are used mostly on campus seldom reach 100K.

Today I will be out of the office most or all of the day. We just put new batteries (2) in the Dodge diesel pickup so it can be started, yes it starts and runs and we will add a video to the listing tomorrow ...hopefully.

Is this vehicle now running on regular diesel fuel or biodiesel? when running on biodiesel what type was used?

The vehicle is now running on regular diesel fuel. When running on biodiesel it would have been made from canola oil, mustard oil, and waste vegetable oil.

Was this done after the use of biodiesel was discontinued? how long has it been running regular diesel? Since the rebuild?

What condition is the seat like under the seat cover? Is there any rust on the body?

I am not going to tear the seat cover off and look under it. One of the images shows the pedals but as far as the seats I can't tell.
I don't see any rust on the body.

Surprisingly, yes it does, I doubted it enough to check under the hood to see if it had the pump and condenser to match the controls and yes it does.

Two items should be noted: 1) I tried to purchase a history report and it came back with no information. This is likely because the school does not report in house maintainence to the reporting agencies like a car dealership would.2) I got a negative review by a jerk who started making unreasonable demands regarding shipping on an ATV. I refunded his money and told him to Pound Sand because I wasn't going to take his crap.
