Introduced at the 1981 Frankfurt Show, the 512 BBi was the last derivation of the 1973 365 Berlinetta Boxers. Almost identical to its 512 BB predecessor, it retained the wider rear track and wider and longer body, now featuring Bosch K-Jetronic fuel injection instead of carburetors. With 344 hp at 6, 300 rpm and an overall weight of just 3, 304 pounds, the 512 BBi performed in Ferrari style and was a major sales success. At the close of production in 1984, it marked the passing of an era in Ferrari history - for as coachbuilder Sergio Scaglietti sadly remarked, It was the last car where we made everything by hand.
As a last production year model in original European specifications, this beautiful 512 bbi wears a striking color scheme of Silver over Black Boxer trim with red inserts. We consider it the ideal driver's BBi with a quality bare metal re-paint and reupholstered seating. The car remains very correct with original glass, radio, and trim. It presents as a high quality example that has been well cared for.
The Boxer runs well and feels incredibly responsive. Extensive servicing records from over a decade confirm careful ownership by previous custodians, while maintained by top Ferrari service facilities. More a complete engine-out service was just completed by Exotic Motors in January 2015. This included an engine bay detailing, rebuilding of the water pump, new shift seal boot, all belts, gaskets, hoses and perishable components, recharged air conditioning system, all axle boots, complete clutch and assembly, along with all fluids and filters. Additionally, the Ferrari comes with a fitted Nuvolari stainless race exhaust system, as well as the original exhaust equipment.
