1971 Fiat 124 Sport Coupe.
Highly desirable 124 BC sport coupe. 1608cc, 5-speed. Good platform
for a rolling restoration. Currently not
running, but like most projects, ran (and ran well) when parked! Originally Fiat Adriatic Blue. Currently silver (about 12-year old
paint). Still shiny paint.
Classic Boano design combined with Lampredi's twin cam engine and all-wheel disc brakes meant this car was way ahead of it's time. This car drove great when I had it on the road, just as an unmodified 124 coupe should. I'm selling because I’ve found another project and realistically won't get to this coupe restoration for a while...and want to see this
coupe back on the road- hoping a sympathetic new owner will do just that. A solid 124 coupe is getting so difficult to find, and with the prices of other Italian exotics going into the stratosphere, there's still a window of opportunity to take advantage of upside in the market when these under-appreciated coupes finally achieve the status they deserve. Parts availability is very good, sharing the drivetrain and many mechanical bits from the plentiful 124 Spider.
This car retains the 1608cc engine coupled to a 5-speed. It has Weber 32/36 carb. The engine appears
original but I haven’t actually checked the engine number vs vin. The stack of receipts which come with the car
includes a receipt from 4/5/98 from Ghent Machine Service in Seattle indicating
it had a motor rebuild, showing head rebuild, hone and surface block, polish
crank, new rod and main bearings, rings, guides, gaskets, etc. 5-speed shifted fine when last driven.
I bought it around 2004 from a fellow in Seattle. He delivered it, driving it down to Eugene. The car is now in Corvallis, Or. The car has spent its entire life (from what
I can tell) in the West/ Northwest.
In addition to the purchase price, I spent over $1200 including replacing all the usual maintenance items: timing belt, water pump, carb rebuild, brake work, fresh lubricants, and driveline rebuild, to
get this car even more roadworthy than it was. I got it running and driving well...but then became part of a corporate move cross-county and put it away in storage. .it has since sat for a number of years.
I've attempted to include photos showing what I believe are the issues with the car. Small 5” x4” L-shaped tear in driver's side floorboard, repaired with what looks like fiberglass by previous owner…looks like a jack
punched through floor. The trunk floor is solid (see photos) and the floorboards seem good with the exception of the aforementioned tear. I've included pictures from under the car, both sides. You'll notice some odd lime-green paint in the engine bay...a previous owner decided that they were going to repaint part or all of the car in this color and thankfully I intercepted before they could finish. I was planning to either paint the engine bay and trunk in silver, or revert back to the original blue, restoring the entire car.
Body is relatively straight- a few minor dings. One small softball-ish diameter depression in the roof- barely noticeable.
One dent on driver’s side rear windscreen pillar where it looks like a
piece of metal fell over while in storage. There also appears to be a slight bend in the driver's side lower door edge, which could be easily fixed.
It’s been sitting outside for the last 6 months…previously has always
been in dry indoor storage. Since
sitting outside, I’ve noticed it’s starting to show some minor rust bubbling
under fuel filler cap, near windshield trim, and a few small spots. There appear to be a few spots in the rockers starting to show. Does
not have the usual rust near the windshield/rear window surrounds that has been
common on other coupes I’ve owned. It’s time to get this car back indoors.
It has good glass with the exception of the windshield, which has a
crack in it. They are available albeit
expensive. Headliner is dirty but
presentable- a few small scuffs and minor tears.
The interior trim is typical of a Fiat coupe of this age…the seats
appear to have been reupholstered in a rich brown vinyl. Some of the seams are
split. One of the headrests is
missing. The center shift console around
the emergency brake has significant cracks. The dash is presentable but has some cracks. The gauges are all present, and all lights
and gauges worked when parked, but of course it has sat for years and will need
fiddling.
Trim that I have is loose in car. It is missing a driver's side door handle, but I may be able to find one for the buyer separately. They are also available on ebay.
I do not have a front
bumper.
I have a stack of records, dating back to the 80’s. Including a receipt from a machine shop in
Seattle indicating it had a motor rebuild.
Logistics: The car is located in a secure storage facility south of Corvallis, Oregon. Has a slow leak in the driver’s side front and rear tires. They will hold air for a day, but when buyer
picks up the car- they’ll need to be prepared with an air supply to reinflate
tires. Car does not run currently
(haven’t tried to start it in over 5 years). Car will need to be towed and picked up at storage yard. There is plenty of room to get a trailer in there, but will only be able to be accessed during business hours, Monday-Friday 9-4pm PST. The buyer is responsible for pickup. I live in Arizona, and will not be available to meet to show the car, nor to assist in loading the car. The pictures were taken a few months ago…so
it will likely be dirtier than the pictures indicate when you pick it up. But if you’ve read this far, these details will likely
be of little concern.
Clear, open-dated Washington-state title from previous owner.
Please feel free to contact me with questions. Thanks.
