This 1978 Fiat Spider would be a great buy for someone looking to restore a classic convertible sports car. I acquired this little gem as a barn find. The previous owner had purchased this car as a restore project and started to do some work on it, but gave up because he was unable to acquire the title. I, however, was able to find the original owner of the car and now have a clear title to the car. The original owner took very good care of this vehicle. It had always been garage kept by him. When he stopped driving, he sold the car to the man that I bought it from, who had started to restore it and had also kept the car in a garage or barn for many years. It was still in the barn and covered when I acquired it.
The body is in great shape for as old as it is, besides a little bondo work done by the previous owner. All of the glass is good, and the convertible top is still in great condition. The underneath had been undercoated at some point so the frame is also in great shape. The clutch seems to work great and it can be shifted into all gears. From what I can tell, most of the chrome from the car is in the trunk. It is missing the bumpers and some other chrome, but most of it is there.
The bad. .. .from sitting for so many years, the motor is seized up. I attempted to turn the motor by hand, but was unable to. This may just be a case of rust in the cylinders, but I do not have the time to dig into that problem any further. From what I have read/ seen, one of these cars in this condition is a rare find in the northern states. I do not have the time, or a garage to keep this little gem in, and hate seeing a classic like this sitting outside, so I am listing it here for sale. If you are interested in a great restore project, or are a Fiat fanatic. ..then please do not hesitate to start the bidding.
