Intro:
For your consideration
is this extremely solid 1983 Fiat Spider 2000 that has traveled 65, 000
miles. The exterior is in very nice
condition with a glossy copper metallic finish. This is a running and driving example that with a little work could be
brought up another level. Please view
the 170 photos, 5+ minutes of video footage, and detailed description to get a
clear idea of this vehicle’s condition.

Exterior:
These Fiat Spiders were designed by the
legendary design company: Pininfarina. These are very attractive sporty cars. The body of this Fiat is one of its best aspects. The finish is a copper metallic color and it
is in very nice condition. I do not have
history of when the paintwork was done but it definitely was done
professionally and done by someone with a detailed eye. The finish is quite glossy and offers nice
reflections. There is an absence of significant
flaws throughout like cracking, runs, fish eyes, peeling , etc. There are very few nicks or marks on the
paint. The color and quality matches on
all of the body panels including the underside of the hood, trunk, and door
jambs. This finish is very presentable
and should stay that way for quite some time.
The body on this Fiat
is impressively solid. These Spiders are
of course known for rotting out if not kept out of wet weather. This car exhibits signs of being from a dry
sunny climate due to how solid it is (and some cracking in the interior). The floors, rockers, bottoms of the doors, trunk, wheel well lips, and etc. are extremely solid and do not show rust
repair! Please view all of the images of
those areas. The floors and rockers are
incredibly straight and solid. One thing
that is kind of odd is that over the whole car, there are only two bubbles to
be found, located on the passenger rear quarter panel behind the rear wheel. Please view that photo. As stated, there are not other spots like
that found elsewhere on the car. Please
note, in one of the pictures showing the passenger rear area behind the rear
wheel, there is some dirt pictured, that is not bubbles or other issues. Again, the body on this Fiat is impressively
solid and in definitely above average condition. The body panels line up as they should with
proper gaps. The underbody has the
original rust proofing intact and looks as it should. The panels are very straight and not
wavy. There does not look to be any
evidence of damage or repair done to the body.
The convertible top is
in nice condition without rips and could use a cleaning. The passenger side pull down lock mechanism
for it has difficulty staying snapped so could use adjustment. The clear plastic window in the top is in
very nice condition. The top cover is
present and is in decent condition with some markings. The glass and trim is overall in very good
condition. The wheels are in very nice
condition. The bumpers are in very nice
condition as well. This is an attractive
automobile.
Interior:
The interior on this
Fiat shows some use and wear. The dash
has typical cracks on the top of it (now covered by a pad) and on the front of
it. The center console plastic also has
cracking. The carpet could use a cleaning
and the passenger floor mat could be replaced due to stains on it. All of the seats are in very nice condition, including the back ones. The door panels
are also very nice. With some clean up, replacement of the dash pad, and replacement of the console plastics, the
interior would be very presentable. Otherwise, enjoy it as is as being mostly complete and in driver
condition.
Mechanical:
Please view the video
of this Fiat running and driving. The
engine starts well and idles smooth. It
is the 2.0L fuel injected 4 cylinder. There is an oil leak which looks to be coming from the valve cover that
should be addressed. Other than that, there does not seem to be significant maintenance needed. The engine bay itself could also use some
clean up to match the quality of the rest of the car. The exhaust is good. The transmission is an automatic and shifts
as it should. The tires are matching
Pirellis that have good tread but are older. The brakes stop the car but with more pedal pressure it pulls to the
right, so possibly the front calipers could be rebuilt or replaced. The suspension and steering function as it should. This car can be driven as it is now but does
have a few maintenance items that should be completed.
Conclusion:
The Fiat Spider is a great vehicle
for the enthusiast looking to spend under $10, 000. Many of these vehicles were produced so
parts, aftermarket parts, community support like online forums and Fiat clubs, and other support exists for these vehicles. Part prices are reasonable and comparable to other sub $10, 000 classic
vehicles. These cars have a classically
styled body that offers top down driving fun. This example is extremely solid and is very presentable as it sits. This car is a great candidate for the hobbyist
that wants something to drive and tinker with.
