This is my 1980 Fiat X1/9 Bertone Targa Convertible with 84, 993 original miles.
This is probably one of the cleanest, best-condition and nicest X1/9s you will find for sale anywhere in the country. This is truly an excellent example.
I have known this car for years- I purchased it from a friend of mine who works at a local electronics repair shop. He is fastidious about his cars and this car was always kept garaged and covered. During my ownership the car has always been kept in my heated warehouse.
The car has the following equipment/options:1.5L carbureted engine5-speed manual transmissionremovable targa convertible top (stores in front trunk)upgraded stereo system- JVC head unit with Polk Audio speakers and SPL 600-watt amplifierinterior lighting upgraded to LEDThe body and chassis of this car are extremely clean for the age- unusually so for this particular car. The body is straight and clean and the underside is solid and in great shape. It is unusual to find an X1/9 with a body this clean. Everywhere you look- underneath, inside the wheel wells, in nooks and crannies, EVERYWHERE is solid and clean. The reason is because this car has never been driven in salt since it was new. It has always been stored winters and never driven in snow or salt.
The interior of this car is excellent. The seats, upholstery, and carpet along with many interior trim and panels are all new. Over $900 was spent on the seat upholstery alone. These seats are much nicer than they were when new. This is a superb interior- probably the best you'll find in an X1/9.
Mechanically this car is in very good condition. It starts, runs and drives beautifully. The engine is smooth and runs perfectly. The transmission shifts through the gears well, the clutch is strong and the brakes stop well. The handling is excellent and the steering is tight and responsive. There are many new parts on this car including new suspension all around, new Koni shocks/bushings, etc, new lower control arms/bushings, new radiator/hoses, new steering rack and more. The tires are nearly new as well.
This car is reliable and it drives very well. Long highway trips are no problem for this car and it never runs hot or overheats.
Many receipts for previous service and work done to the car are included, as well as a repair manual and factory service manual.
The paint job on this car was done several years ago and it looks very nice. It is not a show-quality paint job, but rather a good-quality driver paint job. If you look closely you will see some spots of clear coat flaking and some dust specks in the finish as well as one bubble by the air intake near the left rear wheel arch. The Abarth logos and decals were added at the time of the paint job. This paint job and body looks very good for the age of the car- it is very respectable and presentable. I'd say it is a very good 5-footer. See the photos for an accurate representation.
This car has a clean and clear OH title ready to transfer.
Please keep in mind this is a 35 year old Italian car. It isn't perfect, and you should budget for future upkeep. If you intend to drive this as your only car with no backup, or you intend to spend all of your automotive budget on the car with nothing left over, you may want to look elsewhere. This is a great quality example of a classic X1/9 but let us all be realistic with our expectations with a car this age and by this maker. The paint has a number of small nicks, chips and other small flaws. At higher speeds you can hear some wheel bearing hum. The transmission shifts up and down through all the gears but you can't rush the shifts. Reverse works, as long as you hold the shift knob in place and keep your speed reasonable. This car is sold as-is with no warranty.
You can fly in to Cleveland (CLE) and drive this car home. You can also have the car shipped- please call Angels Transport at 530-245-0481 for a shipping quote.

Tonight my wife and I took the Fiat to get ice cream after dinner. I took an evening drive putting about 50 miles on the car, and it was a pleasure; this car is outstandingly nice to drive. I purposely took a route with twisty, winding roads and the car handles amazingly well on tight turns. I could take turns where I normally need to brake without slowing down the slightest. The suspension is absolutely tight with zero rattles, clatter or looseness. The steering is communicative and precise. The willing sound of the Italian engine behind you as it revs up toward redline is beautiful. The brakes are strong and stop the car very confidently, even from super-legal speeds. When we got to the town with the ice cream shop, I parked the car on the street and had to field questions for a half an hour from people walking by. People remember these cars from when they were more common, but everyone said they had never seen one this nice! All in all, it was a really pleasurable experience; exactly what this car is for!

I've had a question or two about reverse, as these cars are known for problems with reverse. If you hold the shifter in position and keep a reasonable speed, reverse works fine. If you try to go fast, or you're going up a hill in reverse, it will pop out. This is near-universal for these cars, but I can say that the reverse works fine for what you'll need it for, which is backing out of a parking space, etc.
