1970 Ford XL Convertible, This car was ordered by Ford's Marketing Division in zone 74 i.e. Seattle, Washington. It was used in Ford's display at the International Auto Show in Seattle that year. It was the center of the display on a turn-style. After the Auto Show the car went to Harris Ford in Lynnwood. They sold the car to a gentleman from Bellevue Washington who owned it until about 1997. I bought the car from the second owner in 1998. In 2003 we took the XL to Tucson to be used as a driver when our family snowbirds were there for the winter seasons. In 2007 we sold the car to a friend of the family that lived near us in Tucson with the agreement that if they ever decided to sell, We wanted first right of refusal to buy it back. In 2014 we were in Tucson and heard that our friend Sharon was considering selling the car. We contacted her and the rest is history, We bought it back and I drove it home, Back to the Pacific Northwest. While Sharon owned the car in Tucson, Az. she took it to a local car show and was approached by a Photographer from Hemmings Classic Car Magazine who ask to photograph the XL. She was pleased to allow the photos to be taken, but she knew little about the car so she gave them my contact information. I gave them the information they needed to build a wonderful feature article in there May 2008 magazine. I highly recommend anyone interested in purchasing the XL checkout the article.
Every owner of the car has babied this beautify and has always kept it garage stored and Dealer serviced.
This car is a survivor original. The car was repainted to factory specifications in 1995 by the original owner by a Ford Dealership. the car has absolutely no sign of rust anywhere, The interior and convertible top are original from the factory. The car has the 390 cu.in engine, Cruise-O-Matic transmission, power steering, power front disc brakes, power seat, power side windows, electric clock, dual outside racing mirrors, deluxe rim-blow steering wheel, AM/FM stereo radio, deluxe mag-style hubcaps, and Dualtone paint option. I was told by Ford that the dual tone paint option was only offered on XL's in 1970 and they only sold 160 cars with that option, making this car very rare.
While driving the car home from Tucson in 2014 the odometer turned over the 100, 000 mile limits for the very first time, thus it has 101, 639 true and actual miles today.that equals an average 2, 210 miles per year since it was new in 1970.
