1931 FORD MODEL A. 98% COMPLETE AND ORIGINAL - A GREAT RESTORATION PROJECT.
This Model A Pickup has been sitting for around 40 years under a corrugated metal shed roof on a remote 10 acre ranch in the Arizona desert near Florence Arizona. I purchased the ranch, which had several old cars and trucks on it 5 years ago. The vehicles were included in the sale of the land. The man I bought the ranch and vehicles from, stated the Model A Pickup had belonged to his Grandfather who had lived in Tulsa Oklahoma in the 1940's and 50's. The man stated he had always wanted to restore it, but just never found the time. He said it was never registered in Arizona, and the Oklahoma TITLE WAS LOST LONG AGO. He hauled it to Arizona from Oklahoma on a flatbed trailer in around 1976, parked it, and it sat there for 40 years. The former owner is now deceased. REPEAT: There is NO TITLE for this vehicle. (The auction system requires something be entered in the title field and NONE is not an option). It should not be a problem to get a new title issued in the state where this finally ends up. The actual mileage is unknown, as the speedometer is missing, although the instrument cluster housing and ignition switch and keys are present.
The truck looks to me to be complete and original, although some parts have been removed, and are all shown in the photos, and everything shown is included in the sale. The running boards on both sides are missing - as are both left and right side door window glass, the inside door and window handles and the instrument panel gauges, and probably a few other items, which I am unaware of. I have posted 24 photos, so hopefully you can see what is there, and what is not.
The body and most other sheet metal parts have surface rust but no major rust or rusted through areas due to being in the desert climate. The floor pan, cab and under seat areas are excellent. There are two spots just forward of the doors on both the left and right where there is previous old body filler repairs, and these are shown in the photos. I see one minor rust through spot on the bed flange where the wood planks used to attach about 1 inch long. There is some fiberglass resin painted on the inside of the right door. Both doors open and close OK and the external handles still turn and latch/ unlatch. The exhaust manifold appears to have been repaired on the top (greyish area), as shown in the photos. There may be other repairs I have not noticed, But overall, for an 85 year old vehicle, it looks pretty solid and will make a great restoration vehicle.
The front and rear window glass are both good - no cracks. The engine and transmission look almost new externally, and are nicely painted, but the internal condition is not known. I gave a weak attempt to turn the engine with the hand crank, but was not able to get it to turn. Probably would break free with a little oil in the spark plug holes, or could tow in gear, but I will leave that to the successful bidder, rather than risk breaking something. The clutch and transmission seem to shift OK. The bench seat and seat back are just metal frameworks and springs, but look like they could be restored. Comes with an excellent extra right rear fender, although the one on there now looks OK. The steering column support bracket needs some repair, a new lower clamp with screws is included.
I installed some good P205-75R15 tires on some modern 15 steel wheels, as shown in the photos. Since the front bumper is removed, a tow bar can be attached to the frame, for towing short distances or moving around. I really don't think it would be safe to tow any long distances with the tow bar or even a tow dolly. Would be better and safer to transport it on a flatbed.
Seller will cut a piece of plywood to fit the pickup bed, and place all the parts and extra parts in the bed and strap and secure everything with ratchet straps, for safe transport.
Sale includes a set of four 16 spoke style wheels, one with a good old tire, a Stalwart brand nylon tire probably from the 1950's (looks like still a usable tire). The 16 wheels are a bit rusty, but basically sound. One wheel has a very small rust area around the valve core hole, shown in photos, but would be fine as is with a tube. Included are also a few new parts, as shown in the photos, and three old engine cranking handles.
This Model A can be picked up any day of the week, during daylight hours. The vehicle is located in the vicinity of Highway 79 and Arizona Farms Road, just North of the Town of Florence, Arizona 85132.
