In a throwback to the 1968 movie Mustang that bore its name, Ford launched the 2001 Mustang Bullitt GT after a concept version had won acclaim at the 2000 L.A. Auto Show. Based on the 2001 Mustang GT, the limited-production Bullitt featured a 4.6-liter V-8 tweaked for better airflow and power, including a cast-aluminum intake, twin 57-mm bore throttle body and high-flow mufflers. Team Mustang also gave Bullitt a firmer, lowered suspension for tighter handling, as well as special exterior enhancements and interior touches meant to capture the spirit of the movie car. Unique wheels, Bullitt badging and a brushed-aluminum fuel-filler door helped complete the look, with a factory serialized identification label included to verify each 2001 Bullitt as a true collectible. The power plant is a 90-degree SOHC 16-valve V-8 4.6L / 281 CID Horsepower: 265 hp @ 5, 000 RPM Torque: 305 lbs.-ft. @ 4, 000 RPM Compression: 9.4:1 Front: Modified MacPherson Strut (Tokiko), Stabilizer bar, coil springs, lowered 0.75 in. Front: 13.0 in. vented Brembo disc, PBR twin-piston caliper (painted red) Rear: 11.65 in. vented disc, single-piston caliper ABS: Four-channel ABS system, linked to all-speed traction control Wheels: 17 x 8 in 5-spoke American Racing Torque Thrust forged aluminum Tires: 245/45R-17 BSW Goodyear Eagle.
