The first unified performance package offered in the earliest Ford Mustangs was the GT Equipment Group, an array of features that consisted of manual front disc brakes, the Special Handling Package with stiffer springs, shocks and front stabilizer bar; quick ratio steering, chromed exhaust trumpets, rocker panel stripes, GT emblems and fog lights. Ordering the GT Equipment Package required either the A-code 289/225 HP or the K-code 289/271 HP HiPo engine with stronger connecting rods with 3/8-inch bolts, thicker main bearing caps, a solid lifter cam, screw-in rocker arm studs, machined valve spring seats, Autolite 4-barrel carburetor, dual point distributor and better manifolds. Professionally rotisserie restored by Early Iron Restoration of Rochester, Minnesota, and driven just 620 miles since its completion, this 1966 Mustang GT Fastback was sold new at Gillen Motor Sales of Chesapeake, Ohio. Its second owner purchased the car in Atlanta, Georgia, where it was subsequently stored for 11 years. This is a genuine K-code GT Fastback originally delivered with Raven Black paint and a Red Pony interior, both new and now resorted. The original engine, Borg Warner Toploader 4-speed manual transmission and rear end have been rebuilt, and a new Arvinode exhaust system installed for authenticity; the wiring system is also new. Optional extras include Rally Pack unit, full-length console, tinted glass, Visibility Group, AM radio and dual Redline tires on chromed styled steel wheels. All options and colors match the trim tag on this elegant high-performance Mustang, which is listed in the K-Code registry.
