1969 Mustang Convertible
Report
The included Marti report identifies this car as a one-of- one Mustang convertible, with a big block engine and a four speed manual transmission. Using Hagerty’s 4 point system this car is a solid 2…maybe a 1& ½. This is an investment grade collectible car suitable to either fill out someone’s collection or to fit the role of a stand-alone rare survivor car. This Mustang is original with the small exceptions described below.
The car was purchased in Florida by A.W. Ecklund, my father. The service date of the vehicle was December 11, 1968. (See documentation pictures.) According to the Marti Report (See accompanying picture, ), this is one of 86 convertibles with this combination of engine (390 GT) and transmission (4 speed – wide ratio) and one of one with color and interior combination in 1969!
The documented mileage is 50, 000. (plus a small amount for local driving) The original speedometer broke and was replaced in April of 1977 with 38, 002 miles. (See maintenance note in Owner’s Manual.) The current odometer reading is 12, 095. (See documentation pictures.) I have the original speedometer for authentication. The car is original with the exception of normal maintenance replacement needs. All body panels are original – no rust or body work. The paint was redone in the summer of 2009 using the factory code W (Meadowlark Yellow) ChromaBase clear coat. All door knobs, key locks, bumpers, accessory and decorative items were removed and re-installed for this process. All-weather stripping and window felt were also replaced at this time. The rubber brake line connections were replaced about the same time. Everything is in working order, even the rally clock. The deluxe interior is original and in impeccable condition. The top was replaced in 2012. In 2013, I replaced the entire exhaust system with an OEM 2 1//4 inch exhaust and tail pipes. FlowMaster mufflers were used. (The sound is awesome.) While the exhaust system was down, any surface rust was sand blasted, the undercarriage was power washed and painted. Understand that the drive train has never been removed from the vehicle, therefore, the undercarriage is not pristine…just very nice for a true survivor of a car!!! In 2015, the radiator core was replaced. During the R & R, it was noted that the AC condenser was in the same condition as the radiator, so the condenser, dryer and the AC compressor were all replaced with OEM parts.
The documentation that comes with the car includes the original warranty cards, owner’s manual, the original window sticker, the Marti report and the original speedometer.
The options on this car are impressive. Besides the 390, 4V, 320 HP GT engine and the 4 speed manual transmission, there is the factory- installed handling package, power steering, power front disc brakes, deluxe interior group, SelectAire AC, AM radio, tinted glass and front bumper Guards.
The car was moved from Florida to El Paso, Texas, in December of 1986 and then to Las Vegas, Nevada in August of 1995. It has always been garaged and has been driven approximately 6, 000 miles since 1986. This is truly and exceptional example of a gentleman’s muscle car of this time period.

“Using Hagerty’s 4 point system this car is a solid 2. The flaws are minor. There are two small Paint chips, on the driver's door jam, the driver's headlight rim and the left rear quarter panel. The underside of the passenger's door had a small amount of surface rust. The automatic choke is dysfunctional and as the drive train has never been removed, there is a small oil leak from and unknown source.”
