GMC Other (1952)
for sale
Price: US $2,700.00
Price: US $2,700.00
I am selling my 1952 GMC 3/4 ton long bed pickup. It is a
great truck with a lot of character to it but it is more than I can handle
for what I want to do to it. This truck will be great for someone who knows how
to do the fabrication work themselves. Replacment parts/panels are abundant for restoring this truck from at least 3 online companies. Then, give it a fresh paint
job and it will still probably be under the NADA value for the investment you put into
it. It will be great for rat rod project or a full restoration.
NOTICE: The truck must be hauled. The gas
tank is disconnected and it needs brake work. As far as I know, the engine is
good.
The truck comes with a bill of sale that will allow
you to register it. Included is a previous bill sale from 1979 and registration
cards to show previous ownerships.
TRUCK HISTORY:
I bought it from a guy who found it on a farm. The story is
that it has had two previous owners. The second bought it in 1979 and started to restore it. It was kept inside until it was
'found' this year. I bought it with the intent of doing a resto-mod but it is
beyond my means to do it. Even though it is in rough (but complete) condition, everyone who sees it loves the tri-tone paint job and tells me not to have it
repainted.
Please look carefully at the pictures. The truck is being sold as-is. Here are my non-professional observations of the truck to
try answer any conceivable question that I would want to know as a buyer:
RUST:
The front clip and cab of the truck does not have much in
the way of rust. The floor pan has
been patched up. The inner cowls/kick panel have little rust which is a common
area to be rotted out. There is some rust on the very bottom edges of the cab
(corners) but it is not as bad as most of what is out there. There are patches
available to fix it. The cab beltline (the seam across the back of the cab) has
some rust but it appears not be rusted through. The truck bed sides are rough where the sides meet the bed
which is typical of this design. The tailgate is probably best used as wall
art.
FRONT:
I don't know if there are
fender patches available for the headlight areas but there are for the back bottom
area. The grill is dented. The remains of an extra grill can be included in
case you want to do something creative with it. The hood is in great condition
but the passenger hinge is missing screws which I have tried to show in the
picture. The hood will still open and close as-is for hauling.
CAB:
There are windows that need to be replace because someone had used well-fitted plexiglass. The main damage to the cab is that
the outer cowl panels are dented which is a common
problem that, I believe, is from the doors getting slammed forward. The fire wall
is very solid but the floorboard has been patched and will need to be replaced
if you are doing a full restore. The dashboard and bench seat are in great condition, there is a new rubber floor mat, and the (new) gas tank is
disconnected.
TRUCK BED:
I don't think that it can be used for a full
restoration but it may be good as rat rod project. The fenders have dents and a some rust on the front edge
that can be cut off and replaced with a fender patch. As mentioned early, the
tailgate is probably best used as wall art. The bed is sheet of plywood.
ENGINE:
The engine is the original straight-6 cylinder that was
supposedly rebuilt 30 years ago. The person I bought it off of says that, instead of hooking it up to the new fuel tank, they rigged it with a gas can and that it runs good. The rigging hose is still
there but I have not tried it myself because I planned on using a
different engine. The engine looks great for being 64 years old. The
parts/accessories attached to it appear to be in good condition. The
transmission is the original 3 speed with 'granny' gear.
SPARE DRIVETRAIN (see pictures):
I have a spare 6 cylinder engine and manual transmission
that you may have with the truck if you want it.
WHEELS:
The truck comes with the original 8-lug rims. There is a full
set of original hub caps that, I believe, are hard to find for these trucks. I
assume there is chrome under the gray spray paint. They
are not pictured on the truck because my mechanic had just finished unlocking
the drums/shoes to help the truck roll better. The white wall tires are brand
new from the person who found the truck.
PRICE:
I have set the price according what I have seen other restorable Chevy/GMC
Advance Design pickups selling for. I have seen ugly rusted-out junkyard
pickups (that needed far more help than mine) go for as much as $3800.
PAYMENT:
I do not accept Paypal due to some bad blood when it ruled
in favor of someone who scammed me. If
you are paying online, you may pay through Chase Quickpay, which is a great way of making payments without sharing account information, or domestic wire transfer. Payments may be mailed in
the form of a Postal or Bank money order. Or, you may show up in person with cash. I require a non-refundable deposit of at least $500 that must be received within 3 days to show your intent and the complete payment must be received
within 1 week.
SHIPPING:
The truck is located at an automotive restoration business just outside Freeport, Illinois. Shipping is the buyer's responsibility
and must be taken care of within 10 days of full payment.
THIS TRUCK ONLY ROLLS. It does not drive or brake. The gas
tank is disconnected and my mechanic had to break off the brake/drum shoes to
get the wheels to roll freely.
THE TRUCK HAS NO TITLE, only a bill of sale. Also included
is the bill sale from 1979 and registration cards to show previous
ownerships.
I AM SELLING THIS LOCALLY and reserve the right to cancel this auction at any time.
EVERYTHING STATED ABOVE IS TO THE BEST OF MY KNOWLEDGE. THE TRUCK IS 64+ YEARS OLD AND IS BEING SOLD AS-IS.
